Tagetes erecta L. Chou Fu Yong (Marigold) (leaf, flower) Alpha-terthienyl, d-limonene, 1-linalool, tagetone, n-nonyl aldehyde.50 Treat sores and ulcers, cold, conjuctivitis, cough, mastitis, mumps. [Pg.159]

Figure 34 shows the results for alcohol (methanol, ethanol, 1-propanol and 1-butanol), ketone (acetone and diacetyl), terpene (pinene and linalool), aldehyde (n-nonyl aldehyde) and ester (acetic acid n-amyl ester and n-butyric acid ethyl ester) of various concentrations. Because of the linear characteristics of the CTL-based sensor, the plots are located in a similar region for a certain type of gas of various concentrations where the Henry-type adsorption isotherm holds. Thus, we can identify these gases with various concentrations by simple data-processing. [Pg.130]

The aldehydes and alcohols produced are a mixture of normal and iso-compounds. This is due not only to the orientation of the hydrogen with respect to the C-CO bonds in the initial reaction complex but also to the isomerization of the olefin under the process conditions. It may be significant that nickel carbonyl does not readily shift the olefin double bond under the 0X0 process conditions, and nickel compoimds are very poor catalysts for the process. From isooctene 32% n-nonyl alcohol, and from propylene 50% n-butyl alcohol are obtained, the remainder of the products being isoalcohols. In general, using a-olefins as raw material, one obtains about 60% isoalcohols. The synthesis will not occur unless a labile hydrogen atom is available in the olefin reactant. With diolefins the reaction takes place at only one double bond. [Pg.136]

The direct oxidation of alkyl halides to carbonyl compounds by DMSO occurs in good yield under mild conditions in the presence of silver ion, which assists formation of the alkoxysulphonium intermediate silver perchlorate is the salt of choice, other salts competing nucleophilically with DMSO for the substrate. Oxidation of primary halides stops cleanly at the aldehyde stage, except when an excess of silver salt is present. As has been already described, sodium tetracarbonylferrate converts alkyl bromides into the homologous aldehydes this conversion is most successful with primary halides, n-decanal being obtained in 77% yield from n-nonyl bromide. [Pg.158]

To 0.89 g (4.0 mmol) of (45>,55>)-2-ethyl-4,5-dihydro-4-melhoxymelhyl-5-phenyloxazole and 0.52 g (4.0 mmol) of cthyldiisopropylaminc in 10 rnL of Et20 arc added 1.08 g (4.0 mmol) of 9-borabicyclo[3.3.1]nonyl trifluo-romethanesulfonate30 in a dropwise fashion at — 78 C under nitrogen. The mixture is stirred for 2 h at — 78 °C and 4.0 mmol of the aldehyde are added dropwise at — 78 °C. Stirring is continued at this temperature for 3 h then 20 mL of CH,OH, 9 raL of pH 7 phosphate buffer and 9 mL of 30% H202 are added sequentially. After 45 min at 0 C, workup as described for the anti-esters furnishes 4,5-dihydro-2-(2-hydroxy-l-methylalkyl)-4-methoxymethyl-5-phenyloxazoles 18 as oily products. Without further purification, the crude adducts are heated to reflux in 4.5 N sulfuric acid for 12-14 h. Isolation of the 3-hydroxy esters follows the procedure for an -3-hydroxy esters (vide supra). [Pg.611]

While enologists have been interested in the odorous constituents of grapes and wines for many years, Hennig and Villforth (1942) and Hennig (1943, 1950-1951) seem to have made the first systematic studies on the subject. They extracted wine with pentane and after hydrolysis identified the alcohols and acids. They reported the following aldehydes, ketones, and related compounds (formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, propion-aldehyde, cinnamaldehyde, vanillin, acetone, methyl ketone, acetyl-methylcarbinol, and acetal—caproaldehyde and higher members of the series, benzaldehyde, and furfural were not positively identified but probably also occur) alcohols (methyl, ethyl, isopropyl, isobutyl, isoamyl, and a-terpineol—n-propyl, n-heptyl, and sec-nonyl (2-nonanol)... [Pg.461]
