Multi parameter

As a result, a considerable amount of effort has been expended in designing various methods for providing difference approximations of differential equations. The simplest and, in a certain sense, natural method is connected with selecting a, suitable pattern and imposing on this pattern a difference equation with undetermined coefficients which may depend on nodal points and step. Requirements of solvability and approximation of a certain order cause some limitations on a proper choice of coefficients. However, those constraints are rather mild and we get an infinite set (for instance, a multi-parameter family) of schemes. There is some consensus of opinion that this is acceptable if we wish to get more and more properties of schemes such as homogeneity, conservatism, etc., leaving us with narrower classes of admissible schemes. [Pg.214]

Because the current estimates of the interaction parameters are used when solving the above equations, convergence problems are often encountered when these estimates are far from their optimal values. It is therefore desirable to have, especially for multi-parameter equations of state, an efficient and robust estimation procedure. Such a procedure is presented next. [Pg.263]

Another possible advantage with MolSurf descriptors (and also other multi parameter descriptors) is the fact that they describe the investigated compounds not only with a single value, as in the case of PSA and log P descriptors, but in a multivariate way. This approach provides a more balanced description of the requirements that a structure must have in order to be well absorbed and may, in turn, provide additional insight on how to develop compounds having favorable absorption properties. However, as will be described in Section 16.4.10, simpler -i.e., less computationally demanding - parameters carrying similar information content with equal interpretability may be used to derive models for intestinal absorption at the same level of statistical quality. [Pg.391]

Multi-parameter enzyme-based biochips could also be obtained by locally adsorbing, at the PDMS-graphite surface, several oxidase enzymes. [Pg.174]

A multi-parameter approach is preferable and the re scale of Kamlet and Taft (Kamlet et al., 1977) deserves special recognition because it has been successfully applied to the positions or intensities of maximal absorption in IR, NMR, ESR and UV-visible absorption and fluorescence spectra, and many other physical or chemical parameters (reaction rate, equilibrium constant, etc.). Such observables are denoted XYZ and their variations as a function of solvent polarity can be expressed by the generalized equation... [Pg.204]

Many different approaches have been reported in the last decade toward a better understanding of the medium factors that influence reaction rates. Fundamental studies have been devoted to probe the reaction at a microscopic level in order to obtain information on the nature of several specific solvent-solute interactions on S Ar and to attempt a description of these effects quantitatively. Recent works have shown the wide applicability of a single parameter scale such as the Ex(30) Dimroth and Reichardt37, as well as other multi-parameter equations. [Pg.1220]

Consequently, it is also apparent that the solvent effect can be described on the basis of mathematical relationships between parameters which fall within the relationships defined as free energy correlations. In fact, the more parameters that are included in the mathematical treatment (multi-parameter equations), the better the description of the solvent effect that results. However, we will consider here only those parameters which take into account the solvent effect on redox potentials. [Pg.590]

Depending on their sensing ability, flow-through sensors can be classified into single-parameter and multi-parameter according to whether they can sense one or more analytes on passage of each sample. Multideterminations usually rely on the use of an instrument e.g. a diode array spectrophotometer) for virtually simultaneous multidetection e.g. [20]). [Pg.55]

The sensors discussed in this Chapter are dealt with in five sections. The first three (Sections 4.2-4.4) are devoted to single-parameter sensors, which are dealt with in increasing order of use (viz. those involving a gas-liquid, liquid-liquid or liquid-solid interface). A further distinction is made according to the type of detector involved. Section 4.5 is concerned with multi-parameter sensors, which are still unfortunately much less common. [Pg.202]

Sensors allowing two or more analytes to be determined by a simple procedure are technically more complex than single-parameter sensors, but also more advantageous, which justifies the R D endeavours devoted to them. Few multi-parameter sensors have so far been developed, however, and even fewer are actually operative, of which those commercially available are included. Progress in this area is therefore much needed and desired. Multideterminations based on sensors can be accomplished (a) by using a detector capable of distinguishing the signal produeed by each analyte, whether as... [Pg.224]
