My wife Montse has also helped me very much with her (almost infinite) patience and permanent support. Hence, I wish to dedicate this book to her and to my beloved sons Roger and Marc. I would like to extend my dedication to my mother and to my father, who passed away nearly 30 years ago, and to the Fraxedas colony spread in the New World, in particular to my cousin Joaquin. 

Another great person who also won a Nobel Peace Prize was Dr. Albert Schweitzer, a German doctor who, like Mother Teresa, also selflessly served the poor and sick. Schweitzer dedicated himself to the people of Africa. In Africa, he built a hospital and a leper colony, a refuge for those who had been rejected by society. Again, he was not the first to offer care and comfort for the sick and suffering. But he certainly was great. 

Binding via synchronicity occurs in milliseconds to seconds. Binding via chemical modulation occurs in minutes to hours. We need both, and we must make the best of both until we understand the mother of all questions how does the synchronous and chemically coherent activation of brain cells result in conscious experience in the first place How, after all, is the nervous system involved in subjective experience - what the philosophers call qualia - and what David Chalmers dubs the hard problem Chalmers asserts that neuroscience has not yet, and may never, solve the hard problem. If you love a mystery, and want to avoid the implications of what neuroscience is saying, you have a way out here. Neuroscientists are no more believable than anyone who waves his hands and says And then a miracle happens . The brain is a colony of neurons it thinks and therefore it is. 

However, the taking of a single sleeping tablet by the mother could easily have been forgotten in this case. Nevertheless, in one study in rabbits the effect on the offspring of the administration of thahdomide to the male parent was studied (154). It was concluded that in rabbits of a cross-bred colony of high fertility there was a deleterious effect on the progeny ascribable to paternal treatment with thalidomide. 

The system of cotton cultivation in Mozambique was a draconian model of this policy. The Portuguese made great efforts to concentrate the population con-centragaoes) so that officials or concessionaires could enforce cotton cultivation and delivery. In one variant, plots were marked off by surveyors, and every family was assigned a plot. The scheme was enforced by a system in which personalized passes indicated whether their bearers had acquitted their cotton quotas for the year those found in default could be arrested, beaten, or sent off as draft labor to the dreaded sisal plantations. As a totally organic hydroponic gardener, you are required to do many things before the actual "fun" part of the process begins design and build the grow area learn how to properly use the materials and equipment and establish a healthy colony of mother plants. But such an association of the feminine with the national is not limited to Irish literary and oral cultures. The Senegalese poets Leopold Senghor and David Diop, as well as many Ghanaian and black South African writers, assert their loyalty to a symbolic Mother Africa, portrayed as the embodiment of African tradition. In Derek Walcott s epic poem Omeros, Helen becomes symbolic of his native St Lucia, desired by coloniser and colonised alike.
