Morphological stmcture

Wool fibers have a very complex morphological stmcture. They can be considered as biological composite materials, in which the various regions are both chemically and physically different (87). Fine wool fibers contain two types of cell those of the internal cortex and those of the external cuticle. [Pg.347]

The morphological stmcture of raw silk fibre is given in Fig. 1-10. The actual fibre protein is called fibrion and the protein sericin is the gummy substance that holds the filament together. The average composition of raw silk is 70-75% fihrion (CijHj NjOg), 20-25% sericin, 2-3% waxy substances extractable by ether and alcohol and 1 to 1.7% mineral matter. Sericin is amorphous and dissolves in hot soap solution. Fibrion is the form of a filament thread and dissolves in 5% sodium hydroxide solution at boil. [Pg.14]

This chapter, related to the crystallization, morphological structure, and melting of polymer blends, has been divided into two main parts. The first part (Sect. 3.2) deals with the crystallization kinetics, semicrystalline morphology, and melting behavior of miscible polymer blends. The crystallization, morphological stmcture, and melting properties of immiscible polymer blends are described in the second part of this chapter (Sect. 3.3). [Pg.295]

SS) and the hard phase e (HS). The shape fixing and shape recovery are strongly related to (SS) and (HS). The distribution of viscoelastic deformation between soft and hard phases is dependent on the two-phase morphology such as phase separation, phase composition, domain sizes, domain concentration and coimectivity, etc. Thus the shape memory properties ate defined by the two-phase morphological stmcture of the segmented polyurethanes. [Pg.37]

The shape fixity of the segmented polyurethanes is dependent on not only their Tg and the Tg but also the morphology stmcture. Figure 3.14 shows the shape... [Pg.66]

The development of materials with an engineered morphological stmcture, such as selective membranes and nanostmctures, employs principles of aggregation in these interesting technical solutions. Here, we consider some basic principles of aggregation, methods of studies, and outcomes. The discipline is relatively new therefore for the most part, only exploratory findings are available now. The theoretical understanding is still to be developed and this development is essential for the control of industrial processes and development of new materials. [Pg.732]

The basic elements of cotton fiber morphological stmcture are known to be the cuticle, primaiy wall, convoluted layer, secondary wall, and tertiary wall with the central chaimel [11-14]. The fiber surface is covered by a thin layer of wax substances—the primaiy wall (cuticle). This layer is a protective one and possesses rather high chemical resistance. [Pg.142]
