Mixture model multiple mixtures

The model for C consists of a mixture of multiplication and division and so the standard uncertainty of C is obtained by an application of equation (6.13) ... [Pg.271]

On the basis of the results from XPS studies by Kanamura and co-workers that the SEI has a multilayered structure,Peled and co-workers modified their lithium electrode passivation model to include carbonaceous anodes and proposed a so-called mosaic model to describe the SEI structure on the anode, as Figure 15a shows.According to this model, multiple reductive decompositions occur between the negatively charged anode surface and the various electrolyte components simultaneously, depositing a mixture of insoluble products on the anode. This heteropolymicrophase SEI consists of many microregions that are of entirely different chemical... [Pg.96]

There are several potential sources of error. Both methods of analysis use a binary model mixture, composed of sulfidic and thiophenic components. Thickness effects in the XANES of these model systems would alter the calibrations. There may be contributions from species not adequately represented by a simple dibenzothiophene-dibenzylsulfide model. While the XPS data are represented by 163.3 eV and 164.1 eV components, the model compound data base is as yet limited and not sufficient for a definitive interpretation in terms of alkyl sulfide and thiophenic forms. Examination by both XPS and XANES of a wider variety of model compounds and multiple component model compound mixtures will better define the sulfur species represented by these quantification methods. [Pg.134]

BOX 5.1 Example of a spreadsheet calculation of the expected combined defined effect for a multiple mixture using different amounts of information. Note Tier-1 prediction relies on exposure and EC50 information (toxic unit summation), Tier-2 needs additional concentration response information for calculation of expected combined effects according to the reference models of response addition or concentration addition, and Tier-3 calculation (mixed models) requires information on the relevant mode of action. The sample is based on real analytical and effect data. Source Redrawn from data from Altenburger et al. (2004). [Pg.154]

An interesting investigation of the ternary mixture H2S + C02+CH4 was performed by Ng et al. (1985). Although much of this study was at temperatures below those of interest in acid gas injection, it provides data useful for testing phase-behavior prediction models. The multiphase equilibrium that Ng et al. observed for this mixture, including multiple critical points for a mixture of fixed composition, should be of interest to all engineers working with such mixtures. It demonstrates that the equilibria can be complex, even for relatively simple systems. [Pg.89]

Selection of components and their proportions are, in most cases, based on theoretical models and consecutive trials. There is a place for considerable improvement in the material design by the application of the optimization approach, from which objective indications may be obtained (cf. Section 12.7). The optimization of concrete mixtures for multiple design objectives is a challenging and important area of research. Spatial gradation of the material composition and structure adds a new set of design parameters that must be accommodated within such an optimization framework. [Pg.513]

In terms of defining end of life wifh 50 % retention, it is challenging to evaluate polymeric compounds for performance at elevated temperatures using the Arrhenius activation energy model when the individual behavior of different compound classes and formulations does not necessarily fit the model. The Arrhenius model may w k very well when the compound exhibits first-order kinetics (Feller, 147). However, plastic compound formulations are complex chemical mixtures of multiple... [Pg.14]

A statistical description of multiphase flow might be developed based on an analogy to the Boltzmann theory of gases [11, 39, 60,63, 66, 91, 125,135]. The fundamental variable is the particle distribution function with an appropriate choice of internal coordinates relevant for the particular problem in question. Most of the multiphase flow modeling work performed so far has focused on isothermal, non-reactive mono-disperse mixtures. However, in chemical reactor engineering the industrial interest lies in multiphase reactive flow systems that include poly-dispersed mixtures of multiple particle types, with their associated effects of mixing, segregation and heat and mass transfer. [Pg.990]
