Much of the thinking on gas-liquid reactors is also applicable to liquid-liquid reactors. The liquids are usually not miscible, and the transport of reactants can determine the specific reaction rate. Liquid-liquid reactors require dispersion of one of the liquid phases to provide sufficient interfacial area for mass transfer. This can be achieved by the use of static mixers, jets, or mechanical means such as in a CSTR. [Pg.41]

Mixing in agitated vessels, static mixers, jet mixers, t-mixers, and other devices is important to the performance of most chemical and process plants. The capability for the analysis of stirred tank mixers is unsurpassed, with interactive automated model generation and mixing-specific data anal3 s tools. [Pg.132]

In a typical commercial dry jet-wet spinning process, PPT polymer of inherent viscosity 6.0 dL/g is added to 99.7% sulfuric acid in a water-jacketed commercial mixer in a ratio of 46 g of polymer to 100 mL of acid. The mixture is sealed in a vacuum of 68.5—76 mL of mercury. Mixing takes place for 2 h... [Pg.65]

The pumping number is a function of impeller type, the impeller/tank diameter ratio (D/T), and mixing Reynolds number Re = pND /p.. Figure 3 shows the relationship (2) for a 45° pitched blade turbine (PBT). The total flow in a mixing tank is the sum of the impeller flow and flow entrained by the hquid jet. The entrainment depends on the mixer geometry and impeller diameter. For large-size impellers, enhancement of total flow by entrainment is lower (Fig. 4) compared with small impellers. [Pg.420]

SEP mixers are hori2ontaHy installed on the side of the tank and near the bottom. By rotating the propeller, a spiralling jet is produced (Pig. 27) near the tank floor which provides the desired thmst to dislodge and entrain the sediments. SEP mixers should be designed to provide the suspension velocity at the farthest distance on the tank floor. [Pg.434]

Jet Mixers Continuous recycle of the contents of a tank through an external pump so arranged that the pump discharge stream appropriately reenters the vessel can result in a flow pattern in the tank which will produce a slow mixing aciion [Fossett, Trans. Jnst. Chem. Eng., 29,322 (1951)]. [Pg.1631]

FIG. 27-33 Inspirator (gas-jet) mixer feeding a large port premix nozzle of the flame retention type. High-velocity gas emerging from the spud entrains and mixes with air induced in proportion to the gas flow. The mixture velocity is reduced and pressure is recovered in the ventnii section. FIG. 27-34 Aspirator (air-jet) mixer feeding a sealed-in large port premix tunnel hnmer. Blower air enters at lower left. Gas from an atmospheiio regulator is pulled into the air stream from the annular space around the ventnii throat in proportion to the air flow. The commonly used types of mixing equipment can be placed in the broad categories (1) mechanical agitators, (2) inline motionless mixers, (3) tank jet mixers, and (4) miscellaneous. The nature and type of agitator used depends upon the scale and type of mixing and upon the fluids being mixed. The broad classes of impellers are ... [Pg.455]
