Minimum inventory

A very simple method. Whenever this inventory level falls below a predefined value, a fixed lot size is usually reordered. This method was used in the past in file-card planning also for order point planning. Minimum inventory is destined to become scrap inventory. This is why this method is nowadays only suitable or justifiable for [Pg.174]

Minimize inventory to the extent feasible. Expected benefits from minimum inventory may be offset by hazards resulting from more frequent and smaller shipments. The relative hazards should be reviewed (Englund, Design and Operate Plants for Inherent Safety—Part 1, Chem. Eng. Prog., vol. 87, no. 2, March 1991, pp. 85-91). [Pg.2322]

Fire hazards are minimized by minimum inventories of chemicals. Control or miniini/e ignition sources, provide a confining area, reduce the temperature of the material as much iis possible, blanket the material to eliminate air contact. Have available fire protection equipment breathing apparatus, and protective clothing for the fire fighters. Use several hour fire walls to prevent the spread of fire to other process areas. [Pg.303]

Attainment of the goal of balanced plutonium production and consumption and minimum inventory will require a number of decades. Paradoxically, achievement of the goal will be most important in the event that nuclear power is phased out, leaving large and increasingly accessible plutonium inventories in many countries if no provision for their destruction has been made. While the global abandonment of nuclear power is extremely... [Pg.118]

Consider a process in which each delivery of raw material provides a 10 day supply and is stored in a tank. Delivery from the supplier takes between 5 and 15 days. The minimum inventory in the tank is to be 20 days supply. For what period should the storage tank be sized ... [Pg.290]

The maximum bandwidth inventory is also defined statically as absolute quantity ft wmaxa 0r as inventory range i wmaxr in analogy to minimum inventories V p,l e 112. Exceptionally, this limit can be increased up to a physical maximum inventory quantity, V / ,/Je I12 in a specific period controlled by the binary maximum inventory switch parameter (7 L X, V p,l e I12, te. T. Compared to the maximum bandwidth inventory, the physical maximum inventory quantity corresponds with storage capacity limits in the transfer point. [Pg.181]

Lower inventory boundary is 0, if the minimum inventory limit switch <7 is 1. Upper inventory boundary is equal to the maximum bandwidth inventory, if the maximum inventory limit switch 0, tax is 0, otherwise the maximum absolute inventory quantity is applied as upper limit. The constraint is relaxed with A1" " of A a , if no feasible solution exists due to hard inventory constraints. [Pg.182]

Inventories in the first months are relatively high compared to the minimum inventory index due to higher actual inventories at the beginning of the planning horizon as shown in fig. 79. [Pg.219]

Table 2 resumes the operational results. All solutions present a lower medium flowrate when compared to CLC s occurrences. The DTP solution leads to a pipeline stop (without interfaces) and reducing pipeline usage. CLC verified both high flowrate and positive balance in inventory, increasing the final inventory. The results on minimum inventories are similar for all strategies, being P3 the product with lower levels. [Pg.281]

Prefer minimum inventory in reactor by providing better mixing, increased temperature or pressure, or changing the catalyst. [Pg.1410]

Volumes and inventory A lean manufacturing operation carries minimum inventories and aeates minimum waste. Additives in concentrates or other forms, though they may be relatively inexpensive when initially purchased, are simply one more purchased product to stock on a shelf Moreover, they are bulk products that may only be used slowly over time They may also have limited shelf lives, acquiring moisture over time or otherwise degrading, causing odors or slowly or unpredictably transforming into useless material. [Pg.239]

If the consumption rate approaches the production rate or we reduce the cost of changes, we converge on the flow model or river of goods moving through the supply chain. The rate of production is matched to the rate of demand, and production is continuous. In the flow model, there is also minimum inventory in the supply chain. The root cause that had justified this inventory has been variability that lies in the difference... [Pg.356]

The inability to remove all the chlorine in routine operation reduces the useful storage capacity of a tank and increases the minimum inventory. The latter is important when trying to reduce the consequences of the worst-case accident scenario. Installing a suction inducer to reduce the required net positive suction head or adding a pump well or boot to the tank can reduce the liquid heel left by a pump. The former can reduce the suction head requirement from nearly 2 m to something less than 0.5 m. The latter allows the pump to be placed below the bottom of the cylindrical portion of the tank. This adds to the complexity of the tank and may require its elevation to be... [Pg.866]

Small-capacity hoppers, typically glass-tube receivers, are mounted directly on the throat of a processing machine and replace machine hoppers. They generally utilize an adjustable level switch which allows a minimum inventory of predried material to be maintained on the machine. Figure 7.33 illustrates a system incorporating all of these elements. [Pg.528]

Minimum inventory of fresh and spent fuel being stored at the site outside the reactor during its service life ... [Pg.9]

Downtime not only reduces production but also can create hazards. Since maintenance work can not always be planned, some minimum inventory of spare parts should be available for disbursement and routing to the trouble spot in the plant. For effective disbursement ... [Pg.195]

The analyses performed demonstrate that the LOCA acceptance criteria are met in the case of the small-break LOCA. The 254 mm cold leg break exhibits the limiting minimum inventory condition that occurs during the initial blowdown period and is terminated by accumulator injection. The APIOOO design is such that the minimiun inventory occurs just prior to IRWST injection for all breaks except the 254 mm cold leg break. All breaks simulated in the break spectrum produce results that demonstrate significant margin to peak cladding temperature acceptance criteria limits. [Pg.141]

Figure 51 shows how excessively high lot sizes tie up capital. Ultimately, the theoretical average inventory of an reference number is the product of the minimum inventory level plus the average half lot size. Let us now take a look at the lot sizes for purchased parts. [Pg.150]

Do you need any minimum inventory level, e.g. for an internally-produced part T2 (Fig. 66) that you can produce within hours out of raw material "R8" Do you really have to have the rarely requisitioned product variant "E7 in your product warehouse when you can produce these high-inventoried components e.g. BG8 through fast assembly ... [Pg.188]

The reduction of safety times and minimum inventory levels at the interfaces between the partners is finally possible,... [Pg.273]

Both the supplier as well as your company have inventory including minimum inventory levels of the same item number. [Pg.276]

You can conduct similar negotiations with your key accounts. Why not ask them to give you their medium-term demands so that you can plan better for your A customers or talk about their minimum inventory levels of your products so that you can both cut down on capital tie-up Why should you not take over the planning and scheduling for his products - wherever possible Do it Your customers will initially be amazed, but soon enthusiastic ... [Pg.277]
