In this example it is obvious that the optimal use of the capacity of the mixers is critical. The mixers are longer in use if the total throughput time is increased and are less in use if the throughput time is decreased. As the mixers are expensive they are one of the bottlenecks.

A number of techniques have been applied to profile tyrosine phosphorylation status (10) [reviewed in (4)]. Most existing approaches are based on a mass-spectrometry (MS) detection system, which is low-throughput, time-consuming, and labor intensive [reviewed in (4)]. Recently, the antibody array has been used for profiling the expression of tyrosine phosphorylated proteins. However, it does not provide information on other important aspects of tyrosine phosphorylation, such as pathway interaction partners or associated signaling pathways. 

A key aspect of the system is the identification of orders the partner will not be able to produce. This is accomplished by detecting the bottlenecks through the concept of degree of demand (a comparison of the capacity needed and available in the future, expressed as the ratio between the planned input and the capacity). AH the systems with potential to generate bottlenecks are identified by the FAS / net system and ranked by their degree of demand. The subcontracting of the orders can be performed by alternative criteria such as history, production costs, and throughput time.
