As in Figure 2, the image of the bacterial colonies were in dark yellow color and the white pigment inside the media is the Ti02 powder. The result shows that the size of the bacterial colonies decreased as the amount of Ti02 powder was increased. Next the image of this sample was analyzed by the developed Microsoft Visual Basic Software as shown by Figure 5. 

Two different computer interfaces were created for datalogging for both wearable accelerometer subsystem and instrumented platform. The datalogging interfaces were created using both Microsoft Visual Basic and National Instruments LabView Software. All data could be exported as text file for further analysis. Both interfaces provided realtime display on data collected by both subsystems. Fig. 4 shows the interfaces of the subsystems. 

Some software applications that you may use for reporting clinical trial information have their own scripting languages. For Microsoft Office applications you can write powerful local utility functions with Visual Basic or VBScript. Other applications, such as Adobe Acrobat, may use JavaScript for utility functions. 

The software for the string synthesis technique is written in visual basic and the data appear in Microsoft Excel sheets. This software can be downloaded via the Internet from http //szerves.chem.elte.hu/furka by clicking on the title ExcelBook appearing on the lower part of the main page. This software is compatible with only those PC systems that have Excel installed. 

Overall, most of the requirements for a process spectrometer/analyzer are straightforward to implement, but they do require attention at the design level. Another important area, which is FTIR-specific, is the user interface and the need to provide for industry standard data communications. Standard software packages do exist for process instrumentation. For prototype development, and even for the front-end interface in a standalone mode of operation, software products, such as Microsoft s Visual Basic and National Instruments LabView, are also important instrumentation development tools. Note that National Instruments also provides important computer-based electronics and hardware that meet most of the computer interfacing, and system control and communications needs for modem instrumentation. 

This chapter is dedicated to all of you who are committed and dedicated to good old General Working (GW) Basic. Like me, you don t want to change to this complex Windows Visual Basic (VB). I have written numerous programs in the old GW Basic and have produced very user-friendly input-output screens using special, commercially sold software packages. Unfortunately, this is all history and we now apply only VB in the Microsoft Windows environment. 

Microsoft Excel and Visual Basic for Application (VBA) are also frequently used for scientific calculations. They are convenient to use and generally available but suffer from the fact that the calculations performed in Basic code or the Excel sheet are not easy to read and understand by users other than the developer. Several examples employ Excel and/or VBA and demonstrate applications where they offer great advantages due to their flexibility and the ability to easily interface to COM components of other software products.
