Metastasis MMPs’ role

Based in large part on the prevailing hypothesis in the 1990s that MMPs were critical factors in cancer invasion and metastasis, many reports appeared in the literature describing increased tissue (PI) and blood levels of MMPs in patients with various forms of cancer and other disease states (Z3). Debate still continues concerning the role of MMPs in metastasis (SIO). 

The MMPs make up a family of proteases that play a critical role in tumor metastasis. " One of them, MMP9, has been shown to be regulated by NF-kB activation, and curcumin has been shown to snppress its expression. Cmcumin has also been demonstrated to down-regnlate iNOS expression, also regulated by NF-kB and involved in tumor metastasis. These observations suggest that curcumin must have antimetastatic activity. Indeed, there is a report suggesting that cmcumin inhibits tumor metastasis. ...
