Metallic spacers

Another metal geometry or node that is of particular interest because of its potential range of supramolecular isomers is the T-shaped geometry, i.e. a mer-substituted metal moiety with 1 1.5 metal spacer ligand ratio. This node has thus far produced three distinct 2D supramolecular isomers brick wall,46 herringbone,49... [Pg.265]

For precise quantitation the gels must be divided into small pieces and the amount of radioactivity per piece determined with a scintillation spectrometer. The most inexpensive apparatus used for this purpose is shown in Figure 6-18. It is simply a large number of razor blades with metal spacers between them usually only one spacer is placed between blades, yielding slices of 1 mm thickness. Gels to be analyzed are frozen... [Pg.216]

Consider a house in Atlanta, Georgia, that is maintained at 22°C. and has a total of 20 m of window area. The windows are double-door type with wood frames and metal spacers and have a /-factor of 2.5 W/m C (sec Prob, 1-120 for the definition of [/-factor). The winter average temperature of Atlanta is 11.3"C. Determine the average rale of heat loss llirough the windows iu winter. [Pg.77]

Determine the overall (/-factor for a double-door-type, wood-framed double.>- pane window with metal spacers, and compare your result to the value listed in ti Table 9-6, The overall dimensions of the v/indow are 1.80 m x 2.00 m, and b the dimensions of each glazing are 1.72 m x 0.94 m (Fig. 9-41). g... [Pg.559]

Pellet or muU techniques cannot usually be applied to polymeric samples due to their softness. Samples of thermoplastic polymers can be prepared by using a so-called press tool for melt films. This tool consists of two heatable metal plates, which can be placed in a hydraulic press. The thickness of the squeezed fihn is defined by the thickness of the metal spacer placed between the heated plates. The metal plates may be wrapped in aluminum foil in order to prevent adhesion of the sample to the plates. The foils can be easily removed by dissolution in dilute HCl. [Pg.94]

Impaction accounts for most of the large particle trap effect of the spacer. This is illustrated in Fig. 4, which shows the fine and coarse particle doses obtained from a budesonide pMDI (Pulmicort, AstraZeneca, Sweden) actuated into a metal spacer. The spacer was initially 23 cm long, and subsequent reduction in the length of the spacer caused a reduction in both the coarse- and eventually also the fine-particle doses. Even the initial shortening of the spacer reduced the coarse particle dose, whereas the fine-particle dose was unaffected thus, the total particle dose was reduced, but the ratio between fine and coarse particles was improved by shortening the spacer. Thus, the spacer length is critical for the fine-particle dose and the ratio of fine to coarse particles. Different pMDIs have different vapor pressures and therefore different aerosol velocities and volumes as a result, the optimal spacer length is specific to a particular pMDI. Moreover, the spacer should be adapted to the particular aerosol jet. For this reason, the op-... [Pg.397]

Figure 4 The effect of spacer length on dose dehvery. Fine (< 4.7-pm) and coarse (> 4.7-pm) budesonide particles delivered from a pMDI with a metal spacer of different lengths. The aerosol was analyzed by an Anderson impactor (U.S. throat) 2 s after actuation (28 L/min). The optimal ratio between fine and coarse particles was obtained with a spacer of 13 cm for this particular pMDI. Other pMDIs will have different optimum spacer sizes, depending on vapor pressure. NebuChamber is a 250-mL metal spacer with high-resistance valves and no dead space between the valves. [Pg.403]

The phenomenon may be somewhat limited by using nonmetallic spacers. The metal spacers, if not removed, could rapidly corrode and degrade the surrounding concrete (Figure 12.50). [Pg.363]

Natural Rubber Compounds or Polymer Rings. These can be either separate from or bonded to the metal spacers. [Pg.125]

After applying the spacers, the substrates with their electrode structures are aligned and then hermetically sealed. When foil or varnish is used as spacer material, the substrates are best sealed with an adhesive such as epoxy. With metal spacers the substrates are simply soldered together. Wlien using glass solder as spacer, the plates printed with glass solder frames are pressed together and heated. [Pg.102]

A typical construction involves a combination system employing a butyl mastic as the barrier sealant between the metal spacer and glass and a back-up, chemically curing sealant serving as an adhesive to hold the unit together. An insulated glass mastic formulation is shown in Table 14. Vistanex LM low molecular weight PIB is combined with a platy talc filler... [Pg.203]
