Metal printing plates

Letterpress is printed directly by the rehef method from cast metal or plates on which the image or printing areas are raised above the nonprinting areas. Ink rollers apply ink to the surface of the raised areas, which transfer it directly to paper. Flat-bed cylinder presses are available but most letterpress is printed on rotary presses. 

Therefore, metal plates have been conventionally used. We have performed the research and development of a photopolymer printing plate for a master plate with a new basic structure by combining an oligomer of urea structure having a polyvinyl base with polyvinyl alcohol, photopolymerization initiator and other ingredients. The result shows that the newly developed plate (6) is so good that it has replaced metal plates and has been stably used at leading newspaper companies in Japan where several millions of newspapers are daily issued. 

The Photopolymer Plate, a water developable photopolymer relief printing master plate made by modification of polyvinyl alcohol with urea group oligomer having a functional polyvinyl base, for making paper mold and matrix for printing master plates, has characteristics which are very close to those of the conventionally etched metal relief printing plates and has some superior points to them. 

The same principle is also applied in the manufacturing of printing plates for modern printing processes. Moreover, photopolymerization is used for coating of metals or wood and it finds also application in dentistry. 

The most important applications of nickel metal involve its use in numerous alloys. Such alloys are used to construct various equipment, reaction vessels, plumbing parts, missile, and aerospace components. Such nickel-based alloys include Monel, Inconel, HasteUoy, Nichrome, Duranickel, Udinet, Incoloy and many other alloys under various other trade names. The metal itself has some major uses. Nickel anodes are used for nickel plating of many base metals to enhance their resistance to corrosion. Nickel-plated metals are used in various equipment, machine parts, printing plates, and many household items such as scissors, keys, clips, pins, and decorative pieces. Nickel powder is used as porous electrodes in storage batteries and fuel cells. 

Plastic parts can be post-finished in a number of ways. Film and sheet can be post-embossed with textures and letterpress, gravure, or silk screening can print them. This is a relief printing process in which the image areas are raised above the level of the non-image areas and transferred from the inked printing plate to the metal surface by means of an intermediate resilient rubber surface.
