Message alert systems

Improvement Item ACEMD had to contact SC Emergency Management Division (SCEMD) to initiate the Emergency Alerting System (EAS) which only works if radio station is in auto position. ACEMD did not have (EAS) monitoring capability to determine if EAS message had been transmitted to citizens. SCEMD resource issues can impact initiation of EAS. Procedure to confirm dissemination of public protective action notifications should be developed. 

Alerting the participants to incoming messages and system updates using an animation-based interface results in a greater number of interactions among students compared to the number of interactions with a text-based interface. 

The animation-based interface uses animated buttons to alert students to incoming messages and system updates. A priority is associated with each button. This means that only one animated button will be shown each time the user reaches the home page (see Fig 2). 

The results are organised in four sections. The first two sections describe the results from the groups separately. These results are considered in relation to hypotheses 1 and 2. These hypotheses concern the relationship between the use of text and the use of animation to alert participants to incoming messages and system updates, and the number of interactions and social presence. The last two sections describe the results from both groups combined and these results are used to evaluate hypotheses 3 and 4. 

The results of this study do not support the hypothesis that alerting the participants to incoming messages and system updates using an animation-based interface promotes a strong social presence compared to the social presence perceived by the students with a text-based interface. TTie perceived social presence was similar for both groups and might be related to the fact that the participants shared some face-to-face courses. 

Electronic document management systems have the ability to distribute documents based on permissions or access control lists (ACLs). Document consumers can be notified automatically of a document s availability in the system. Once a file s status is updated to final or approved, a message can be automatically sent to members of a distribution list alerting them that it has been published. Access to the document can be further streamlined by attaching to the email a pointer to the file in the EDMS. 

A conditional based notification system module using SMS (Short Message Service) will allow alerts and status to be sent to mobile phones, digital radio and email. 

With a view to harmonizing pollution reporting systems, a standard alert message format (POLREP) has been developed, which is us within a number of regional agreements (IMO, 1995). 

The cyber analyzer receives the CPU consumption of the target system, provided as a SOA service by VTop, and generates an alert message if the CPU consumption of the kernel exceeds a threshold for a given time (in this case, the CPU consumption only needs to be at 100% for over 1 second). 

Audible messages can also be part of the alarm system particularly where members of the public are present. These will alert the occupants to the fact of a fire and can be used to direct them to the nearest fire exits by the safest routes. Tests have shown that the public react more quickly to an audible message than they do to a bell or other sound. The standards required for voice alarms are contained in BS 5839 Part 8 and EN 60849. ... 

The SysML-AD used to represent the behavior of the Web Server Monitor is depicted in Figure 5 (a). This administrative operation is deployed in the Web Servers. The Web Server Monitor checks the data center every 5 minutes. If the data center is not working properly, an alert message is issued to system administrators who are responsible for manual maintenance operations. Otherwise, the number of available Web servers is checked and it is adjusted, if necessary. We introduced the stereotype -Ccontrol to the actions Failover a Server and Stop a Server. That is, the Web Server states (see Figure 5(c)) are affected by the execution of the action nodes Stop a Server and Failover a Server of the respective SysML-AD. 

The system shall provide several notification-means to alert operators on an alarm condition, as message presentation on monitors, indicators on console, graphical presentation in system context, audible indications...
