In 1983, I set up my own company P.S. Analytical. A broad range of analytical modules with hardware and software have been designed, developed and manufactured by the company and are sold internationally. The main expertise of P.S. Analytical is to research a problem and to provide, at an economic cost, a fully engineered solution for routine use. The company collaborates with other companies, with universities and with government laboratories. P.S. Analytical has exposed me to different areas of analytical chemistry and has allowed me to tackle many areas of analytical apphcation, for example types. I have been actively involved in all aspects of the automation, especially economics, philosophy and management. P.S. Analytical has flourished and increased its range of products from simple accessories to fully integrated instrumental systems, for example, the Merlin Plus Fluorescence system for the determination of ultra-trace levels of mercury. [Pg.10]

Godden and Stockwell [11] have described a specific fluorescence detection system to provide fully supported analytical systems for routine analysis of mercury at low levels. The fluorescence approach provides a wide linear dynamic range and extremely low detection limits. P.S. Analytical s Merlin Plus System provides a fuUy automated system which will produce results at a rate of around 40 per hour. This is due to the optimization of the optical design of the detector, coupled to the inherent features of the fluorescence technique. [Pg.213]

The interface provides efficient transfer of samples into the Merlin, and, most importantly, a rapid flush-out there is no hold up of mercury (which is a feature of the commonly used atomic absorption techniques). To aid the transfer of mercury vapour, the tin(II) chloride regime is used, together with a gas/liquid separator designed for this task. Mercury is sparged from the reaction vessel into the Merlin Detector. Full automation is provided by using a simple standard DIO card fitted into an IBM compatible computer system with the PSA Touchstone software. This is an easy-to-use menu-driven system which controls the modules used in the instrumentation, calibrates the system, collects, collates and reprints the results, and which finks to host computer systems. [Pg.213]

Each was assigned an initial and, through a complex system of correspondences, associated with all arts, sciences, and natural objects. It is interesting to note that Llull was also the first author of a medieval romance, the genre of literature that led to the tales of King Arthur, Merlin the magician, and the mystical quest for the Holy Grail. [Pg.63]

Structure-activity studies have shown the crucial role of the trifluoromethyl group in optimum biological activity of bleaching herbicides [38], Isoxaflutole (Balance , Merlin ) is a root or foliar uptake systemic herbicide with broad-spectrum control in corn and sugarcane of both grass and broadleaf weeds [39], Isoxaflutole is rapidly converted in plants and in soil to the diketonitrile form, which is the biologically active species (Fig. 7) [40],... [Pg.128]

Application of laser Raman multichannel spectroscopy to a kinetic investigation in the liquid phase has been reported by Crunelle-Cras and Merlin (1977). A multichannel spectrometer with photoelectric image devices, interfaced with a data aquisition and handling system, permits the study of fast processes, exemplified by the fast oxidation of the sulfite ion by the bromate ion in an acidic medium. [Pg.433]
