There is of course no bathochromic shift here in alkaline solutions (difference between morphine hydrochloride [111] and codeine phosphate [801]). In many compounds the relatively weak phenol ether band is considerably overshadowed and barely discernible (mepyramine maleate [306], noscapine hydrochloride [805], papaverine hydrochloride [2408]). [Pg.37]

The precise relationship of histamine to acid secretion was firmly established by Andrew Kay of Glasgow, who had developed the augmented histamine test. Mepyramine maleate was used to block the systemic effects of histamine. The ability of histamine to stimulate acid secretion was measured at a dose of 0.1 mg per 10.0 kg of body weight and maximal acid secretion determined in different groups of patients. The dose-response curves for acid secretion in human subjects in response to intravenous infusion of histamine were subsequently determined by Wilfred Card of the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh in conjunction with I. N. Marks. [Pg.58]

The above results indicate that the diphenylmethane derivatives of histamines behave as normal surfactants with a cleeu cmc. However, this is not general since other derivatives such as mepyramine maleate (a pyridine derivative) did not show a clear breakpoint. This is illustrated in Fig. 2.17 which shows light scattering results indicating a continuous association process with no apparent cmc. The solid line in Fig. 2.17 was obtained using equation (2.47) with n = 10, = lO and a = 0.2. Using such values,... [Pg.128]
