As the nonwoven fabrics industry has matured and technology has become pubHcly available, emphasis in the various sectors of the industry has changed. In the 1990s, some portions of the nonwovens industry are technology driven, whereas others are market driven. A number of firms are proprietary technology based, and others are turn-key plant operations. Some corporations are commodity roU-goods producers, and others are more oriented to niche market, high value-added products. Many nonwoven produces continue the quest for new markets and more opportunities to compete with textiles, paper, and plastics. 

The chief advantage of wood for containers is that many common species are free from harmful contaminants. For this reason wood had widespread use in the food and beverage industries, but it has now suffered severe competition from corrosion-resistant metals, plastics and paper products. TFSA molecules have been extensively and successfully used as steam additives in cyclic steam operations(27-32). Recently, results of a TFSA-waterflood which was conducted in West Texas were reported(33). Larval maturation studies, sometimes referred to as cultures, can be performed on fecal specimens applied to wet filter paper. Nematode larvae such as Strongyloides spp. or hookworm mature to the filariform stages in the culture container and migrate from feces into water, where they are detected microscopically. The procedure can be performed in a petri dish with a square of filter paper or in a large test tube with a strip of filter paper. 

Several papers have reported that, during germination, new LOXs are synthesized in the seedling and the cotyledons the LOX mRNAs synthesized during germination can also be found in the mature plant. Their levels were increased by the application of abscisic acid and jasmonic acid, or by stress such as wounding, pathogen infection, or water deficit (Porta and Rocha-Sosa 2002). 

This paper deals with the current status of this potentially very powerful tool and shows characteristics and capabilities, and some typical results. In the near future, while the CIS module will mature, it is foreseen that a so-called CIS user group will be initiated, which NATO countries can join.

For example, CE and HPLC are widely accepted techniques and take the majority of papers for their account, while CEC, a rather immature technique, and SFC, a less frequently applied one, are much less studied. Therefore, CE and HPLC can be recommended as the two techniques to be tested in a first instance, using either CD or polysaccharide CSP, respectively.

Such allelopathic activity is developed during maturation of oat plants. Whereas only little activity is found in roots, somewhat more is found in stem and leaves. The highest activity, however, is found in the caryopses during maturation, especially in the husks ( ). In the first part of this paper, we shall describe isolation and structural elucidation of the main inhibitor from the husks of Avena sativa, which can be considered as an allelochemical against seeds of several plants.
