Mattress covers

The most common use of 2-(2, 4 -dichlorophenoxy)-5-chlorophenol (2,4,4 -trichloro 2 -phenoxyphenol) is in the personal care products market, where it is commonly known as triclosan and is the active antibacterial in underarm deodorants. It has also found some acceptance as an antibacterial component of plastic mattress covers. [Pg.96]

Mattress covers emit mixtures of aromatic hydrocarbons, TCE, and phenol, the mixture of which induces acute respiratory effects including asthma-like reactionsJ49l Similar effects are observed with emissions from disposable diapers. I50 though such responses are not predicted from the measured concentrations of the chemicals. [Pg.171]

It is estimated that 28% of all chemicals used in commerce could be neurotoxicJ42l Common household products including air fresheners, fragrance products, marking pens, and mattress covers contain known neurotoxins. I43 461 The neurotoxic effects of marking pens are attributed to chemical mixtures. I46l Aspertaine, saccharin, artificial food colors, benzyl alcohol, and other excipients used in pharmaceutical preparations and foods are neurotoxins. I47 48 ... [Pg.337]

The second generation of fibers such as [Na(P03)]w, Maddrell s salt, IMP fibers, and [NaMg(P03)3] had no relationship to asbestos, in any way. Unfortunately, company management was not aware of this phase of the project because it was new. It is also unfortunate that the project was not reviewed with the inventor before it was killed. There is small doubt in my mind that many lives unrelated to asbestos have been and shall continue to be lost, that could have and can be spared, had this project been continued. Work was under way to attempt to prepare safe, nonflammable infant wear, nonflammable mattress covers, and nonflammable interiors of aircraft, as starters. [Pg.21]

There is an evergreen problem with the interior of aircraft, hotel mattress covers, children s sleepwear, and the like because they are flammable. It is obvious that a cloth that could not burn and was safe enough to eat and brush our teeth with should be ideal if crystalline fibers long enough to spin into yarn could be grown. I was already calling the new-old fibers, Kotton. It would be easy to spin amorphous fibers into fabric, but until now their long-term utility must be questioned. There is hope that this problem will be solved and no known reason why it cannot be solved. [Pg.152]

Medical textile products used in hospital wards include bedding, clothing, mattress covers, incontinence products, clothes, and wipes. Incontinence products for patients are available in both diaper and flat-sheet forms, with the latter being used for bedding. Cloths and wipes are made from tissue paper or nonwoven-bonded fabrics, which may be soaked with an antiseptic finish. [Pg.17]
