Note that in mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry (MS/MS) applications, quadrupole and magnetic sectors can be used together advantageously. It is also worth noting that the quadrapole can be operated without the DC voltages. In this RF-only mode, no mass separation occurs, and these quadrapoles are used as ion transmission guides, described in Chapter 49. [Pg.186]

Mass Spectrometry. As of 1996, ms characteristics of pyrazoles and derivatives had not been described in depth. The fate of unsubstituted pyrazole (23) in the mass spectrometer operated in the electron ionization mode may be depicted as follows ... [Pg.308]

Figure 3.9 Conceptual view of tandem mass spectrometry with a tandem-inspace triple quadrupole mass analyzer." The first mass analyzer (Ql) selects the precursor ion of interest by allowing only it to pass, while discriminating against all others. The precursor ion is then fragmented, usually by energetic collisions, in the second quadrupole (q2) that is operated in transmissive mode allowing all fragment ions to be collimated and passed into the third quadrupole (Q3). Q3 performs mass analysis on the product ions that compose the tandem mass spectra and are rationalized to a structure. Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry is now such an important technique in archaeology, as elsewhere, that we devote a whole chapter to it. There are now a number of different ICP MS modes of operation (solution analysis, laser ablation, multicollector, high resolution) this chapter provides a general overview. Further description of the instrumentation for ICP MS may be found in Harris (1997) and Montaser (1998). Some general applications of solution ICP MS are discussed by Date and Gray (1989), Platzner (1997), and Kennett et al. (2001). [Pg.195]

Lopez-Avila et al. [36] used a stable isotope dilution gas chromatography-mass spectrometric technique to determine down to O.lppb of pentachlorophenol (also Atrazine, Diazinon and lindane) in soil. Soil samples are extracted with acetone and hexane. Analysis is performed by high-resolution gas chromatography-mass spectrometry with mass spectrometer operated in the selected ion monitoring mode. Accuracy greater than 86% and a precision better than 8% were demonstrated by use of spiked samples. [Pg.167]

Owing to the anionic character of LAS, an electrospray ionisation (ESI) interface operated in negative ion mode is particularly attractive for the mass spectrometric detection of this surfactant type. Consequently, a great part of the atmospheric pressure ionisation-mass spectrometry (API-MS) work on LAS is devoted to the application of (— )-ESI-MS. [Pg.318]

A triple quadrupole instrument (QqQ) is a combination of two mass quadrupole mass filters (tandem mass spectrometry) separated by a collision cell which is also a quadrupole operating in RE-only mode (Pig. 1.18). A common nomencla-... [Pg.24]
