Manganese experimental methods

This study focused on the deactivation of the Mn/Ce catalysts during reaction. The catalytic oxidation of phenol in aqueous solution to carbon dioxide, water and other side-products was selected as the test reaction. Catalysts were prepared from amorphous precursors using the citrate method and controlling the calcination temperature. Activity performance as a function of the time on stream was studied by simultaneously analyzing the conversion of phenol, the total organic carbon content of the catiyst, the cations eluted and the elemental composition of both cerium and manganese. Experimental conditions were widely varied. Fresh and used catalysts were also analyzed by BET surface area, X-Ray Diffraction and X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy. [Pg.268]

The present method is still in its early stage of application. Both ex situ and in situ type measurements are applicable to a variety of mineral/aqueous solution interfaces. For example, the mechanism of selective adsorption of cobaltous ions on manganese minerals can be studied by this method. In addition to the two Mossbauer source nuclides described in the present article, there are a number of other nuclides which can be studied. We have recently started a series of experiments using Gd-151 which is a source nuclide of Eu-151 Mossbauer spectroscopy. Development of theory on surface magnetism, especially one including relaxation is desirable. Such a theory would facilitate the interpretation of the experimental results. [Pg.423]

These experiments indicate that the hydrothermal method can be used to prepare manganese, cobalt, and zinc triuranates as well as the nickel and copper compounds. No evidence was obtained for a reaction between either Cr203 or Fc203 and UO3 under the experimental conditions used. In this work the Eurachem guide [1] was used for the estimation of uncertainties involved in the determination by electrothermic atomic absorption spectrometry (EAAS) of manganese in digested lettuce leaves. The total uncertainty estimation was calculated assuming a 100% digestion efficiency with negligible uncertainty. The experimental precision was compared with an estimated one for the purpose of validation of the proposed method of evaluation. After this validation the uncertainty estimation was used in an accuracy test and in routine analysis with the support of a spreadsheet programme. [Pg.63]

In conclusion, the naturally occurring manganese nodules can be efficiently used as an oxidant for the conversion of thiols to disulphides under mild experimental conditions. The method is simple and economical with high product selectivity. Rao et al. (1993) present a modification of the usual CS2 evolution method (which measures CS2 by spectrophotometry) with a method that converts maneb to a manganese-PAN complex that is extracted in isobutyl methyl ketone (MIBK) the complex then absorbs at 550 nm and can be measured from 0.37 to 3.75 micrograms/mL. Their method determines micro-quantities of maneb in commercial formulations, synthetic mixtures, grain, and in the presence of various other dithiocarbamates. The authors note that this method is particularly selective since other pesticides like ziram, zineb, and ferbam which usually interfere in other methods did not interfere under their experimental conditions. [Pg.419]
