As described in Section 13.3, management support from the top is a requisite for success for any change endeavor. This is no less important for supply chain and IT efforts, which are often wrapped together. Too often, management classifies the overall effort as a systems initiative and then relegates critical decisions that should be retained to IT professionals. 

Auditing can make a very useful, even essential and vital, contribution to quality management on a process plant construction site, but it has to be properly conducted and receive top management support from all parties involved. This can lead to auditing being accepted as something positive, and not just as a police operation.

As a practical matter, support from top management also creates strong incentives at the implementation level. If PSM is known to be a priority for the boss, it is much more likely to attract active participation within the company. By contrast, initiatives that employees see as "flavor of the month" win (and usually deserve) little continuing employee support. 

The extent to which one requires support from other employees at local sites (e.g. help from local HR/manage-ment in recruiting mentors and mentees, or publicizing the program), and therefore... 

These comments seem to argue for increased use of quantified decisions based on the accumulated evidence of the past, with support from IT and knowledge management however, the same survey revealed views that ...

The immediate concern in the treatment of alcoholics is detoxification and management of the ethanol withdrawal syndrome. Once the patient is detoxified, longterm treatment requires complete abstinence, psychiatric treatment, family involvement, and frequently support from lay organizations such as Alcoholics Anonymous. 

A well-designed QMS will include identified process owners with defined roles and responsibilities. Process owners require support from management, their customers, stakeholders, and quality assurance. Accountability and decision-making parameters will empower process owners to drive execution and improvements to their process, delivering the business results expected. Without these process owner attributes and support, minimal results will be achieved, and functional management will be burdened with and assume the responsibility for making decisions that should be in the hands of capable process owners.

From management s perspective, the QAO needed to be capable of critically evaluating laboratory operations, recognizing the need for changes and improvements, and recommending practical alternatives. In turn, the QAO would need no less than full management support in order to properly execute the QA unit s role as the purveyor of excellence. We, therefore, deemed it prudent and necessary to have the QAO report directly to company management.
