Magnesium basic

Magnesium Basic Carbonate (Magnesia Alba). Add a sodium carbonate solution to a magnesium sulphate or chloride solution heated to 50 °C up to complete precipitation. What is the composition of the precipitate Filter off the latter, wash it with water, and dry it in a drying cabinet at 100-150 °C. Heat the filtrate up to boiling. What do you observe Write the equations of the reactions. [Pg.191]

The yield of RMgX in a one- to five-mmol-scale experiment is determined by direct titration of the reaction mixture with neat sec-butyl alcohol from a microburette (2/0.01 mL) under argon or nitrogen in the pre.sence of ca. 0.1 mg 2,2 -biquinolinc oi 1,10-phenanthroline as an indicator according to the method of Watson and Eastham 25]. The titration is not affected by metallic magnesium, basic magnesium compounds, or magnesium halides. [Pg.102]

The teeth of the limpet P. vulgata were shown to consist of 80 nm fibers rich in SiOs probably bonded together by FejOj (67). In the sea cucumber (Molpadia, intermedia, Holothurioidea) it is interesting that silica occurs in granules in the skin in the form of spheres 100-190 nm in diameter mixed with spherical particles of ferritin of the same size. The latter is a calcium-magnesium-basic iron phosphate (68). The biological role of the silica is unknown, but since the ferritin may serve as... [Pg.739]

The M cations are exchangeable also the water can be replaced by small polar organic molecules. This may be related to the calcium-magnesium-basic iron phosphate found associated with silica in the sea cucumber (69). [Pg.775]

Some of these silicates are present in the nature. However they often contain impurities which make them unsuitable for catalytic purposes, so that the synthetic way appears desirable to prepare these compounds. This paper gives the results we obtained on the preparation of magnesium basic silicates supports and their use in the CO hydrogenation or oxidative coupling of methane after deposition of cobalt-copper or lithium phases respectively. Attempts to synthesize cobalt-copper chrysotile in which the Co and Cu ions would replace part of the Mg ions are also reported. [Pg.270]

USP-grade anhydrous magnesium carbonate is used as a flavor impression intensification vehicle in the processed food industry (see Flavors and spices). Basic magnesium carbonates are used as free flowing agents in the manufacture of table salt, as a hulking agent in powder and tablet pharmaceutical formulations, as an antacid, and in a variety of personal care products (see Pharmaceuticals). [Pg.343]

Upon exposure to the atmosphere, magnesium hydroxide absorbs moisture and carbon dioxide. Reactive grades are converted to the basic carbonate 5MgO 4CO2 XH20 over a period of several years. Grades that resist carbonization at high temperature and humidity have been reported (71). [Pg.345]
