The experiment in Figure 13-3 illustrates the use of flow cytometry to determine Kj and B ax values for binding of the es nucleoside transporter ligand, SAENTA-fiuorescein, at sites in human CEM leukemic lymphoblasts. The es nucleoside transporter is widely expressed in mammalian cells, and is concentrated in regions in the CNS that coordinately express adenosine Ai receptors (Jennings et al., 2001). [Pg.312]

In a study on the immunotoxic effects of cigarette tar components, hydroquinone, at a concentration that did not affect the viability of the cells (50 pmol/L), decreased IL-2-dependent DNA synthesis and cell proliferation by > 90% in cultured human T lymphoblasts (Li et al., 1997). Hydroquinone inhibited Fc-receptor-mediated phagocytosis in mouse peritoneal macrophages only at rather high concentrations (100 pmol/L) (Manning et al., 1994). [Pg.702]

Another event causing overexpression of transcription factors is juxtaposition of these genes to a gene locus for antigen receptors in T lymphocytes. Nearly half of the genes that are translocated to antigen receptor loci in human leukaemia cells, notably in T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (T-ALL), encode helix-loop-helix (HLH) transcription factors (such as Max and MAD) (see Chapter 10 and 17). [Pg.274]

Although G-CSF is not believed to stimulate malignant lymphoid cells, G-CSF receptors have been found in patients with T cell leukemia, and this was associated with a significant increase in T cell leukemia cells in several patients (SEDA-21, 379). Other uncommon consequences of G-CSF have included blast mobilization with a phenotype change from common acute lymphoblastic leukemia to biphenotypic leukemia in one patient (87). [Pg.1549]

Nk receptors have been demonstrated on human and murine T and B lymphocytes, on human IM-9 cells (lymphoblasts), on human peripheral blood monocytes, and on guinea-pig peritoneal and alveolar macrophages but not on human alveolar macrophages (Payan etal., 1983 Hartung and Toyka, 1983 Hartung etal., 1986 Lotz et al., 1988 Pujol et al., 1989 Muscettola and Grasso,... [Pg.131]

Terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT) is a DNA polymerase active during the process of immunoglobulin and T-cell receptor gene rearrangement early in a precursor B or T cell s life. Only normal early B and T lymphoblasts mark for TdT. The staining pattern is nuclear. TdT is a sensitive and specific antibody for lymphoblastic lymphoma/leukemia because only a small proportion of myeloid leukemia cases are positive (Fig. 6.13). [Pg.168]
