In the present paper a new method for the isolation of bovine lung endothelial cell surface heparan sulphate is described. The aim of this work was to investigate for an alternative source leading to ES-HS as described from bovine aortic cell culture. Because of the excellent properties cell culture ES-HS coating of biomaterials has shown in in vitro as well as in "in vivo" experiments, a commercially available source should be found. The solution presented in this work leads to sufficient amounts for technical application of the coating system, especially the isolation procedure bears the potential of a high degree of automation for industrial purposes.
