Erdalith Preservative shall be used to treat redwood lumber by the pressure treating process. The waterborne salts are, by weight, 33% copper sulfate, 56% potassium dichromate and 11% arsenic pen-toxide. Lumber treatment shall be to an average retention at shipment of 0.75 lb/ft3. 

In later years as demand for timber products boomed with the population, the economic value of the virgin stands of deciduous and coniferous forests became the foundation of substantial fortunes. Commercial lumbering moved westward with the population until reaching the Pacific Coast with its tremendous stands of Douglas Fir, Redwood, and Pine. 

The flame-spread number is derived relative to red oak (with an arbitrary flame-spread rating of 100) and to asbestos-cement board (rated zero). Natural wood products (1-inch lumber) usually have flame-spread ratings of 100 to 150 in the test furnace of Underwriters1 Laboratories, Inc. (35). Some exceptions are poplar (170-185), western hemlock (60-75), redwood (70), and northern spruce (65).

Data on lumber are available from two associations. The California Redwood Association, of San Francisco, assembles monthly statistics on redwood lumber production, stocks, and shipments. The Western Pine Association of Portland, Ore., issues weekly, monthly, and annual data on production, consumption, and sales of Western pine lumber. Statistics on prices, new products, equipment, facilities, and processes are assembled, but are usually available to members only. 

Wood Species. The following types of conunercial lumber were obtained from Riverside Lumber Company in New Orleans, LA spruce, Picea sp, yellow birch, Betula alleghaniensis Britton, northern red oak, Quercus rubra L. redwood. Sequoia sempervirens (D. Don) mid Alaska yellow cedar, Chamaecyparis nootkatensis (D. Don). 

Lumber. All lumber used shall be structural no. 1 redwood as graded and specified in CTI Standard 103, Grades II and III. No plywood is allowed in any strnctnral area of the tower. (Acceptable alternative Donglas fir.)...
