Long term potention

Evans et al. [371] reported humoral and cellular immune responses elicited in response to a novel DNA epitope-based vaccine (AV-1955) delivered to rhesus macaques using the TriGrid electroporation device. AV-1955 generates long-term, potent anti-Ap antibodies and cellular immune responses specific to foreign T-helper epitopes but not to self-Ap. [Pg.426]

TCDD is the most potent inducer of chloracne. This has been well known since the accident in Seveso, Italy, in 1976 in which large amounts of TCDD were distributed in the environment subsequent to an explosion in a factory that produced a chlorophenoxy herbicide, 2,4,5-T. TCDD is an impurity produced during the production of 2,4,5-T. The most common long-term effect of TCDD exposure was chloracne. Exposed individuals also suffered increased excretion of porphyrins, hyper-pigmentation, central nervous system effects, and liver damage and increased risk of cancer was a long-term consequence of the exposure. In addition to TCDD, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polychlorinated dibenzofurans, and polychloronaphthalens cause chloracne as well as other effects typical of TCDD. 7i... [Pg.309]

Corticosteroids have potent anti-inflammatory properties and are used in active IBD to rapidly suppress inflammation. Corticosteroids have favorable effects in modulating several cell types involved in the inflammatory process.20,21 They may be administered systemically or delivered locally to the site of action by altering the drug formulation (Table 16-2). Because these drugs usually improve symptoms and disease severity rapidly, they should be restricted to short-term management of active disease. Long-term use of systemic corticosteroids is... [Pg.287]
