The simulated annealing is a technique well suited to solve combinatorial optimization problems on a very large scde. Recently Kalivas et al.P6] have applied a modification of this method, the generalized simulated annealing, as global optimum location technique for multidimaisional continuous functions. The theory and applications of this algorithm have been illustrated in literature[27-29]. [Pg.92]

When unusual spots are found on these two standard chromatograms, it is of course necessary to run more samples of the urine through the process to provide supplementary chromatograms for other location techniques (N2) or to make specific tests on the eluate of such unknown spots. [Pg.57]

After carrying out visualization of invisible spots by any of these procedures, comparision of the distance travelled by each component of the test mixture with the distance travelled by known substances can be made, and the unknown substances are identified on the basis of the Rf values thus measured. Once this distance and hence the position of the spot of each componant of the mixture has been determined, the corresponding areas of the adsorbent can be separated without subjecting these to the aforesaid spot-location techniques and each componant eluted separately. The simplest method of elution consists in scraping off the appropriate area of the thin-layer with the tip of a spatula, followed by extracting the substance from this powder with a solvent. [Pg.255]

Microseismic monitoring is currently the best available method for obtaining three-dimensional information about reservoirs and fracture systems at locations remote from boreholes. The primary problem of the method is its location accuracy. When located with conventional location algorithms, the events are frequently seen to be distributed as a cloud with little macro- or microstructure. It is difficult to meaningfully correlate such images with logging data of existing wells. Therefore, information on detailed reservoir structure, fracture orientation, and hydraulic behavior cannot be obtained from the application of conventional microseismic location techniques. [Pg.73]

It is emphasised here that, in order to avoid missing any sample components it is highly advisable to apply the sample location techniques described in the last section to chromatograms of the sample obtained using several plate materials such as silica gels and alumina, and with each adsorbent to use as wide a variety as possible of different types of development solvents. [Pg.265]

Shortly after the powder/liquid acrylic denture bases were introduced, they were adapted to customized crown and bridge use, (Fig. 2) first as full crowns and facings to be cemented to natural teeth. Because of poor abrasion resistance of the acrylics in such locations, techniques, have been modified to use metals such as the gold and the cobalt alloys, as the supporting and occluding surfaces with acrylic facings held thereon mechanically. Abrasion of crown... [Pg.319]
