There are complicating issues in defmmg pseudopotentials, e.g. the pseudopotential in equation Al.3.78 is state dependent, orbitally dependent and the energy and spatial separations between valence and core electrons are sometimes not transparent. These are not insunnoimtable issues. The state dependence is usually weak and can be ignored. The orbital dependence requires different potentials for different angular momentum components. This can be incorporated via non-local operators. The distinction between valence and core states can be addressed by incorporating the core level in question as part of the valence shell. For... 

Iterative approaches, including time-dependent methods, are especially successfiil for very large-scale calculations because they generally involve the action of a very localized operator (the Hamiltonian) on a fiinction defined on a grid. The effort increases relatively mildly with the problem size, since it is proportional to the number of points used to describe the wavefiinction (and not to the cube of the number of basis sets, as is the case for methods involving matrix diagonalization). San Diego Gas Electric s system was originally installed as a research project. The step that has just been outlined in detail is the most difficult step in the propagation of the wave function. A localized operation is a degenerate case of a joint action with a distinct receiver, in which nothing is known or stated about the initiator s identity or attributes. All relevant aspects of the initiator are abstracted into the input and output parameters of the operation. The following is a fully localized operation that cannot refer to the initiator at all. 

The concept of inputs and outputs is meaningful only for directed requests either fully localized operations or joint actions with initiators and receivers, in which the invoker of an operation somehow provides the inputs and uses the outputs.
