Pressure reducing valves should be of steel constmction, designed for minimum and maximum operation conditions. Pressure gauges should be of ak-kon constmction. Pressure rehef valves should be of the spring-loaded type. Rupture disks may be used only as auxkiary equipment. Differential pressure measurements using mercury manometers should be avoided in ammonia service.

There is very little information on the variational nature of loads commonly encountered in mechanical engineering. Several references provide guidance in terms of the coefficient of variation, C , for some common loading types as shown in Table 4.9 (Bury, 1975 Ellingwood and Galambos, 1984 Faires, 1965 Lincoln...

Before initiating any calculations, it is necessary to establish the general category of the pressure relief valve being considered. This section covers conventional and balanced spring-loaded types. 

It should be evident that the full spectrum of the possible materials and applications in load-bearing situations involves many factors that may have to be taken into account. Fortunately, most products involve only a few factors, and others will not be significant or relevant. Regardless, the methods of design analysis must be made available to handle any possible combinations of such factors as the materials characteristics, the product s shape, the loading mode, the loading type, and other service factors and design criteria. 

Extensive work has been carried out in the US regarding the use of soil filters for odour reduction. (6) It was shown that the filter performance depended on filter loading, type of soil, soil moisture, temperature and concentration of odourous components. The US study also concluded that both chemical and biological processes were responsible for the odour reduction.

Loiseau et al. (1977) found that their data for nonfoaming systems agreed well with Eq. (3.3). Calderbank (1958), Hassan and Robinson (1977), and Luong and Volesky (1979) have also proposed correlations for power consumption in gas-liquid systems. Nagata (1975) suggested that power consumption for agitated slurries can be reasonably predicted from these correlations by the correction factor psi/pL, where psl is the density of the slurry. Power consumption for a gas-liquid-solid system has also been studied by Wiedmann et al. (1980). They examined the influence of gas velocity, solid loading, type of stirrer, and position of the stirrer blades on power consumption plots of power numbers vs. Reynolds numbers for propeller and turbine type impellers proposed by them are shown in Fig. 13.

As shown in Fig. 2, the variables describing a fatigue experiment are numerous. Besides mean stress, stress amplitude, and frequency, the load type and history have to be selected in a proper way prior to testing.

Contact electrification of insulative materials, predominantly in film form, has been studied in many laboratories. In this paper, electric field dependent charging of polymeric and polymer-carbon black powders in contact with a metallic electrode has been studied. Results show the charging behavior to be strongly dependent on the composition of the powder surface. Carbon black loading, type of carbon black and degree of dispersion are methods used to alter the powder surface. The field dependent contribution to the charge exchange dominates over the zero field values.
