Loading inspection

The periodic or critical load inspection in the field should be conducted by the crew with the inspector. For the periodic or critical load inspection, all foreign matter should be removed from surfaces inspected. Total field disassembly is generally not practical, and is not recommended, except as may be indicated in the detailed procedure for each tool.

Inspection of load - carrying structures and mounting hardwares, the defects detection under side platings and dielectric shells in their attaching points to the load - carrying structures. 

The thermographic activity on the pressure vessel was carried out considering a part of it because of the axial symmetry. Three different partially overlapping area were inspected since it was optically impossible to scan the curved surface of the pressure vessel by a single sweep. The selected areas are shown in fig.7 and the correspondent positions of the thermographic scan unit are also illustrated. The tests were performed with a load frequency of 2, 5 and 10 Hz. 

Introducing the Selenium for gammagraphic weld inspection at significantly improved quality levels of the radiographs we have also designed an exposure unit for Selenium. This unit is fuUy compatible with both models, M6 and Ml8. Different from the exposure units for iridium, which are Type B(U) containers, the Source Projector M-SE for Selenium is a Type A container with a maximum loading of 3 TBq (80Ci) Selenium. 

All blocks are loaded from the same side, moved through the X-ray cabinet and unloaded on the other side. There is no link between input and output, so there is no way a previously inspected block can by accident be loaded a second time. 

If neither the accept, downgrade or reject button is pushed during inspection, the block will automatically be out loaded after the time limit has expired. The accept/reject/downgrade buttons will flash prompting the inspector for a decision. 

The VMOS-pulser with a rise time lower than 6 ns provides high axial resolution and high-frequency inspections above 10 MHz with an excellent signal-to-noise ratio. The output voltage amounts to about 228 V without load, and 194 V with a load of 75 H, A damping control from 75 Q to 360 Q matches the impedance to the transducer. 

The use of fatigue data and crack length measurements to predict the remaining service life of a stmcture under cyclic loading is possibly the most common application of fracture mechanics for performance prediction. In complex stmctures the growth of cracks is routinely monitored at intervals, and from data about crack growth rates and the applied loadings at that point in the stmcture, a decision is made about whether the stmcmre can continue to operate safely until the next scheduled inspection. 

Air cleaning systems are often used to remove dust or vapors from plant or process exhaust streams. Dust collecting systems such as filters or electrostatic precipitators that handle heavy loads of dust are usually designed to be self-cleaning, but it is stiU. necessary to enter the air cleaner periodically for inspection or repair. Dust deposits inside the equipment are likely to be stirred up and inhaled by unprotected workers. Baghouses are particularly likely to cause exposure because large amounts of dust may be retained in the cloth and released when the bags are handled. 

The polarization cell must be inspected at regular intervals (e.g., twice a year) to check water loss caused by electrolysis. If necessary, the correct level must be restored with deionized water. In addition, the electrolyte should be renewed every 4 years. It is recommended that the dc decoupling device be designed so that the maximum expected failure current flows through the smallest possible polarization cell in order to load the cathodic protection as little as possible.

Shear strength is measured via a simple single overlap shear specimen of standard dimensions (Fig. 9). In contrast to its simple appearance, the forces in a thin-adherend shear specimen can be quite complex due to the inherent offset loading of the specimen and subsequent bending in the substrates. The single overlap shear test is anything but a pure shear test, but the configuration is easy to manufacture, simple to test and is firmly entrenched in the industry as a primary examination technique for materials qualifications, inspection and process control. 

The stuffing boxes on high submergence filters should be Inspected for leakage and, if necessary, the stud nuts should be tightened. It should be noted that excess tightening can increase substantially the load on the drum drive so the use of a torque wrench is recommended. 

It would be possible to recalculate this by choosing a new value for Zj and calculating a new E, for this condition, but the results will not change materially. By inspection, neither horsepower, rod load, nor discharge temperature will limit this suction pressure. 

Vessels are sometimes contaminated by material left over from a previous use. For example, tank trucks were filled with a waste sludge containing particles of aluminum. One day the tank truck contained some caustic soda left over from the previous load. The caustic soda reacted with the aluminum, producing hydrogen. The increase in pressure blew open an inspection port and knocked an operator onto the ground.

Critical loads may be experienced for example, severe loads, impact loads such as jarring, pulling on stuck pipe, and/or operating at low temperatures. If in the judgment of the supervisor a critical load has occurred, or may occur, an on-the-job shutdown inspection equivalent to the periodic field inspection should be conducted before and after the occurrence of such loading.
