Torque wrench

The joints must be tightened with a torque wrench. For the recommended torque values refer to Table 29.1. 

Use a torque wrench to tighten the fasteners to ensure correct surface-to-surface contact of the current-carrying parts (Figure 29.2(c)). The recommended values of bolt torque are given in Table 29.1. A pressure that is too high may eause relaxation of the joint by cold flow and must be avoided.

A mechanic must be supplied with the proper tools to facilitate his jobs. Many special tools are required for different machines, so as to ensure proper disassembly and reassembly. Torque wrenches should be an integral part of his tools, as well as of his vocabulary. 

The stuffing boxes on high submergence filters should be Inspected for leakage and, if necessary, the stud nuts should be tightened. It should be noted that excess tightening can increase substantially the load on the drum drive so the use of a torque wrench is recommended. 

Correct and incorrect methods of installing ilared-tube connectors are illustrated in Figure 40.38. Tubing nuts should be tightened with a torque wrench to the values specified in applicable technical publications. 

Use a torque wrench to tighten all nuts with the same amount of torque. 

Extractor - the extractor is shown in Fig. 8.7, and the means of attaching the small torque wrench in Fig. 8.8. Ideally it should be constructed from stainless steel, but we only used a stainless steel threaded rod or studding (10 X % in, 11 t.p.i., or 254 x 15.9 mm), and the rest was machined from brass. The silage juice should not remain in contact with the brass for long, however, because the brass will be attacked by the acids. The dimensions... 

Torque wrench and socket - a small size torque wrench capable of being set at 8.0 Nm, and a socket having two slots milled opposite to each other to fit over the Ys in (9.5 mm) diameter T-bar at the end of the threaded rod.

Remove the socket and fit it to the torque wrench, and set the torque wrench to 10 N m, once this rough bolting is finished. 

Use the torque wrench, again working in diagonal pairs (as outlined in step 11), to screw the bolts in the distance allowed by the 10 N m setting.

Close the bomb with the closing cap seal the assembly by tightening the screws with a torque wrench to 30 N/m. 

Acquire a defunct office chair with a plastic moulded base as in figure 13.15. With a torque wrench, measure the torsional stiffness of one of the legs, and the torsional strength (the torque at which collapse occurs). Relate these to the possible loads if a 100 kg person attempts to tip the chair back onto one leg.
