Loading facilities must be designed to recover all vapors generated during filling of tank trucks or tanker ships. Otherwise these vapors will be lost to the atmosphere. Since they may be both odorous and photochemically reactive, serious air pollution problems could result. The collected vapors must be returned to the process or disposed of by some means. 

Minimize contamination via fewer cross-connections and fewer hose stations. Minimize the number of hoses required in loading/un-loading facilities. Cross-contamination, sometimes even from catalytic amounts of material, can result in undesired hazardous reactions. To prevent contamination due to rainwater and spills, consider storing a material that can react vigorously with water under a roof. 

Since the product must be shipped to the customers, there must be transportation and loading facilities. It must be determined if docks, railroad sidings, pipelines, and/or roads need to be constructed, and what types of containers are to be used if all products are not to be shipped in bulk quantities. 

In order to achieve a complete transportation system a host of other subsystems support the transportation system operations. Loading facilities, pumping and compressor stations, tank farms and metering and control devices are necessary for a complete transportation system of liquid or gases hydrocarbon commodities.

Cells often have some buffers too. The reason for this is that, by providing a part in the input queue of the cell just before the currently processed part is finished at the particular cell, the cell is kept running at its highest efficiency level, since time is only wasted for part changing. The other important point to note is that well-designed part buffers offer a direct access pickup/load facility, making the rescheduling process in the queues short, simple, and dynamic [18,19,21-27].

Barge loading losses total 800 tons/year of hydrocarbons, including 15 tons/year of benzene. These occur in the York River, around the marine tanker dock and loading facility. The dock extends more than one-half mile into the river from shore. The proposed control scheme would move hydrocarbon vapors emitted during the loading process to an on-shore vapor recovery system or flare. If materials are recovered, they can be recycled to the refinery for redistillation and use in products. 

A large floor space is required for the oven and tray loading facilities.
