Load following

Equation (5.8) tends to predict vapor loads slightly higher than those predicted by the full multicomponent form of the Underwood equation. The important thing, however, is not the absolute value but the relative values of the alternative sequences. Porter and Momoh have demonstrated that the rank order of total vapor load follows the rank order of total cost. [Pg.137]

Tests on load are conducted to determine the performance of the machine, such as its efficiency, power factor, speed and temperature rise etc. For all tests, a machine with load should be properly aligned and securely fastened. Load characteristics are obtained by taking readings at high loads, followed by reading at lower loads. This is usually carried out at 125%, 100%, 75%, 50% and 25% of the full load values. [Pg.256]

The low-power-density, low enrichment reactor core uses soluble boron and burnable poisons for shutdown and fuel bumup reactivity control. Low worth grey rods provide load following. A heavy uranium flywheel extends the pump coastdown to allow for emergency action during loss-of-flow transients. [Pg.215]

In contrast to steam reforming, partial oxidation (POX) uses air instead of steam and, as its name implies, burns the fuel in restricted amounts of air so that it generates partially combusted products, including hydrogen. POX generates heat and can, therefore, potentially respond faster than a steam reformer. This is beneficial for load-following applications (c.g., transportation). [Pg.526]

To meet the needs of a given output, a single generator could be provided, and this option is likely to give the lowest initial cost. However, the alternative of two or more machines, of the same total capacity, while more expensive initially gives higher availability, better flexibility of operation and improved load-following performance. [Pg.192]

Rotary positive-displacement compressors should be operated as base loaded units. They are especially sensitive to the repeated start-stop operation required by load-following applications. Generally, rotary positive-displacement compressors are designed to unload about every six to eight hours. This unload cycle is needed to dissipate the heat generated by the compression process. If the unload frequency is too great, these compressors have a high probability of failure. [Pg.561]

The mode of operation of a specific application should be the first consideration. The inherent design of each type of compressor defines the acceptable operating envelope or mode of operation that it can perform with reasonable reliability and life cycle costs. For example, a bullgear-type centrifugal compressor is not suitable for load-following applications but will prove exceptional service in constant-load and volume applications. [Pg.637]

It is worth mentioning that the results discussed in Sections 3.1 and 3.2 provide a rationale behind the recent trends toward a close-coupled converter location as well as dual-brick converter design (i.e., a relatively small-voltmie catalyst brick with high Pd loadings followed by a larger Pt/Rh catalyst brick) in order to improve converter lightofF performance without excessive noble metal usage. [Pg.19]

A relationship between F- and U-values, leading to an assessment of the probable number of survivors in a load following heat treatment, ean be established flxm the following equation ... [Pg.391]

Adults with HIV infection should be vaccinated with the 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide and hepatitis B vaccines as early in the course of the disease as possible. Inactivated influenza vaccine should be given yearly. Children should continue to receive vaccinations on the standard childhood immunization schedule. The individual may experience a transient elevation in HIV viral load following vaccination.17... [Pg.1249]

The gas turbine performance at part-load follows the same basic form as that for steam turbines illustrated in Figure 23.10, with the mass flowrate defined in terms of the mass flowrate of fuel. Thus, the part-load gas turbine performance can be modeled as4,9 ... [Pg.480]

The reactor core, the source of nuclear heat, consists of fuel assemblies and control rods contained within the reactor vessel and cooled by the recirculating water system. A 1,220-MWe BWR/6 core consists of 732 fuel assemblies and 177 control rods, forming a core array 16 feet (4.8 meters) in diameter and 14 feet (4.2 meters) high. The power level is maintained or adjusted by positioning control rods up and down within the core. The BW R core power level is further adjustable by changing the recirculation flow rate without changing control rod position, a feature that contributes to excellent load-following capability. [Pg.1102]

Ca2 - and K+-hectorite, barasym at pH = 9 and Ca2 -laponite. For these clays the fluorescence intensity decreases with loading, following Perrin s law. Effective surface areas in aqueous suspension are estimated for the first time with Na+-hectorite as a reference. The second category is composed of Na+- and K+-laponite and barasym at pH= 7 A minimum in the... [Pg.377]
