Honey has been produced in Lithuania since the ancient times. Baltrusaityte et ah (2007a,b) recently reported antimicrobial and antioxidant properties of Lithuanian honeys. Kaskoniene et ah (2010) characterized the carbohydrate composition of Lithuanian honeys obtained from various sources and determined if there was any relationship between pollen content and the content of the carbohydrate in the honey. [Pg.104]

Denmark 1.5 days after the explosion. Air samples collected at Roskilde, Denmark on April 27-28, contained a mean air concentration of 241Am of 5.2 pBq/m3 (0.14 fCi/m3). In May 1986, the mean concentration was 11 pBq/m3 (0.30 fCi/m3) (Aarkrog 1988). Whereas debris from nuclear weapons testing is injected into the stratosphere, debris from Chernobyl was injected into the troposphere. As the mean residence time in the troposphere is 20-40 days, it would appear that the fallout would have decreased to very low levels by the end of 1986. However, from the levels of other radioactive elements, this was not the case. Sequential extraction studies were performed on aerosols collected in Lithuania after dust storms in September 1992 carried radioactive aerosols to the region from contaminated areas of the Ukraine and Belarus. The fraction distribution of241 Am in the aerosol samples was approximately (fraction, percent) organically-bound, 18% oxide-bound, 10% acid-soluble, 36% and residual, 32% (Lujaniene et al. 1999). Very little americium was found in the more readily extractable exchangeable and water soluble and specifically adsorbed fractions. [Pg.168]

A report is given of explosion of a tank containing 7000 t of liquid ammonia, in Lithuania, consequent upon thermal disequilibrium and bumping of the liquid [10,11], The liberated ammonia caught fire in the open air, the first time this is thought to have been observed. [Pg.1659]

The contribution of the external European anthropogenic sources to cadmium depositions in Europe in 2002 varies from 4 to 75%. In 17 countries it exceeded 50%. The countries most affected by the trans-boundary transport of cadmium are Belarus, Ukraine, Lithuania, and Czech Republic. These countries are located close to Poland, which is a significant emitter of cadmium. Similar to lead, the lowest contributions are observed in Spain and Iceland. The contribution of the trans-boundary transport to pollution of the European Union with cadmium is about 15%. [Pg.369]

On the basis of obtained national totals, spatial distributions of emissions for all years from 1990 to 2001 were prepared. These data allow us to point out the following changes in emission spatial distribution patterns during the considered period. For example, during this period the decrease in emissions ofPCDD/Fs was observed in all Eastern European countries (Figure 3). The most substantial reduction can be noted for Belarus, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Lithuania and Republic of Moldova. [Pg.387]

Three countries, namely the USA (104 plants), France (59 plants) and Japan, account for approximately 58% of the worldwide generation capacity, followed by Germany and the Russian Federation. These three countries also dominated the historical development of nuclear power expansion (see Fig. 4.1). The three countries with the highest nuclear energy share in their electricity mix today are France, with around 75%, followed by Lithuania, with 70%, and Slovakia, with 55%. While nuclear power contributes some 20% to power generation in the United States, the share in the EU25 is around 36%. [Pg.115]

The road snaked in front of them as far as the eye can see, over the flat Zemgale plain toward Lithuania, a brown-soil sea of farmland and tundra uninterrupted for eighty miles except for Lilliputian farmhouses, patches of bog, and scattered copses. A license to produce Kebony has been acquired by the parquet floor manufacturer Boen Bruk AS, who have production facilities in Lithuania. Kebony Products DA have a production facility of 5 000 m per annum capacity, which has been established by WPT, Boen Bruk and Ole Schrpder Co. AS at Herpya Industripark, Porsgrunn, Norway. A further plant is planned with a production capacity of 15 000 m per annum. [Pg.190]
