In addition to the above, there are other industrially modified or pretreated vegetable oils. These are blown oil, boiled oil and stand oU. Blown oils are made by blowing air through the oU at a temperature between 95 and 120°C, depending on the iodine value of the oil. As the durability of films of such oils is poor, they are mainly used in oiled fabrics, lithographic varnishes, pigment grinding aids, and so on. Boiled oils are not actually boiled, rather they are dried (cross-linked) by an oxidative polymerisation process in the presence of an appropriate type and dose of drier at a specified temperature for 8-16 hours. They are mainly used in oil paints, enamels and oil-based primers. Stand oils are the heat bodied or polymerised oils... [Pg.56]

Lithographic varnish Heat-bodied refined linseed oils used as vehicles for printing and lithographic inks. [Pg.580]

At present, the major effort to develop anti-pollution coating systems is devoted to outside lithographic decorating materials for beverage and non-food containers. Water-based, clear varnishes and white coatings are increasingly available for specific end uses. Significant advances are... [Pg.15]

Mastic is a hard resin exuding from the branches of one of the Pistachio trees, Pistncin lentiscus, native of Mediterranean F.nrope and southern Asia. Formerly, it was extensively used medicinally, for stomach troubles and dysentery, as well as other ailments.. Now it is used in making varnishes and in lithographic work. Natives of the region in which it is found chew mastic, which has a pleasant taste. [Pg.1438]

Lithographic and printing lakes should also be resistant to spirit varnishes, when the latter are used as a protection or to render the colours less brilliant. To test lakes from this point of view, it suffices to subject a sharply outlined print to the action of a few drops of spirit varnish, which covers partly the design and partly the white ground. After a few minutes the excess of the varnish is poured off and the print examined when dry to see if the ground has remained perfectly white and if the outlines of the design are still sharp. [Pg.403]

Oxalic acid is used in the manufacture of dyes, inks, bleaches, paint removers, varnishes, wood and metal cleaners, dextrin, cream of tartar, celluloid, tartaric acid, purified methyl alcohol, glycerol, and stable hydrogen cyanide. It is used in the following industries photographic, ceramic, metallurgic, rubber, leather, engraving, pharmaceutical, paper, and lithographic. [Pg.1904]

USE Usual source of water-soluble cobalt since it is the most economical and it shows less tendency to deliquesc or dehydrate than the chloride Or nitrate. Used in storage batteries in Co-electroplating baths as drier for lithographic inks, varnishes in ceramics, enamels, glazes to prevent discoloring in Co pigments for decorating porcelain. [Pg.382]
