Lipolysis INDEX

An alternative lipolysis index based on that of Weeks et al. [47] has also been proposed [44] ... [Pg.198]

This lipolysis index is usually strongly correlated with that of Weeks et al. However, it differs from theirs in that it takes into account all sources of hydrolysis products, polar and non-polar, since only hydrocarbons and sterols are missing in the denominator. In our Trinity Bay study, the lipolytic breakdown indices of net-tow samples were the same as in the sediment trap material suggesting plankton lipids were well preserved in traps. [Pg.198]

Disorder of protein metabolism could be noticed in 13% decrease of total protein content in blood serum. The observed hypoproteinemia was stipulated by 25% decrease of albumin fraction. The index showing correlation between the level of middle molecules and total protein was 65% higher in Group 2 indicating prevalence of protein degradation processes over their synthesis. The revealed disorders indicated the development of liver failure syndrome. Profound disorders were also registered in lipid metabolism. We determined the intensification of lipolysis by increase in the concentration of the main lipid fractions in blood serum. The level... [Pg.226]

Free fatty acids released by lipolysis of milk fat greatly depress the surface tension of milk. In fact, surface tension has been used to some extent as an objective index of the development of hydrolytic rancidity (Dunkley 1951 Herrington 1954 Hetrick and Tracy 1948 Tarassuk and Smith 1940). Its value for this purpose is somewhat limited by... [Pg.431]

Recently, Arner and coworkers investigated the amount of perilipin protein and lipolysis rates in human subcutaneous adipocytes of non-obese and obese women [523]. A polymorphism in intron 6 (rs891460 A/G) in the perilipin gene seems to be associated with a 50% decrease in perilipin expression and increased basal lipolysis (AA vs. GG carriers) in adipocytes of the obese women, which in subjects matched for body mass index and adipocyte volume was inversely correlated with the plasma concentrations of NEFA and glycerol and thus may contribute to the development of insulin resistance. Furthermore, they found two- to four-fold increases in noradrenaline-induced lipolysis [523]. These data also reinforce the role of perilipin for the regulation of lipolysis in human fat cells. [Pg.297]

D. Individuals with type II diabetes tend to be either overweight (a body mass index [BMI] between 25 and 30) or obese (BMI greater than 30). This may be due in part to chronic hyperinsulinemia. In contrast, decreased insulin levels associated with type I diabetes, anorexia, and bulimia, will promote lipolysis and therefore decreased adipose mass. [Pg.362]

Autoxidized trilinolein was separated into mono-, bis- and tris-hydroperoxides by preparative reversed phase HPLC using a 5 m C-18 column with UV at 235 nm and refractive index detectors (Chapter 2, F Figure 6.9). The monohydroperoxides of trilinolein were further resolved into the positional isomers components by normal phase HPLC on a 5 m silica column with UV detection (Figure 6.10). Complete and partial separation of various cis,trans- and trans,trans-2- and l(3)-mono-13- and 9-hydroperoxides were identified by lipolysis and capillary GC. The ratio of 1(3)- to 2-monohydroperoxides estimated by normal phase HPLC averaging 2.0 indicated that oxidation of trilinolein was not selective toward either the 1(3)- or 2-position. [Pg.135]
