Line run

For each frequency 100 points were taken along a line running from the surface of the conductor into a depth of 30 mm in that region below the coil, where the maximum eddy currents are located (dashed vertical lines in the sketch). These data are fitted by appropriate polynomials to obtain an analytical expression for s (to, z) in the frequency and depth interval mentioned above. [Pg.256]

The struc tural strength or protection must be compatible with the area through which the sample line runs. [Pg.767]

If the projected pipeline is situated in an area with dc railway lines, rail/soil potential measurements should be carried out at crossing points and where the lines run parallel a short distance apart, particularly in the neighborhood of substations, in order to ascertain the influence of stray currents. Potential differences at the soil surface can give information on the magnitude of stray current effects in the vicinity of dc railway lines. It is recommended that with existing pipelines the measurements be recorded synchronously (see Section 15.5) and taken into account during design. [Pg.276]

One method of operating a non-chlorinated supply safely is to ensure that the line runs constantly to waste, as do very old drinking fountains. This avoids biological growth that can accumulate in stagnant water. Dead legs in the piping system are always undesirable, especially in such cases. [Pg.474]

The pressure gauge and associated shut-off valve, the boiler vent cock valve, main steam stop valve, and safety valve can be observed rising above the crown sheet of a FT boiler (the highest point of the boiler), normally in a line running the length of the boiler. [Pg.73]

Reactions of alkenes with H-Si(l 0 0)-2 x 1 surfaces have been shown to yield films with one-dimensional (ID) molecular lines through Si-C linkages, contrary to formation of the islands observed on H-Si(l 11). The reaction can be initiated from isolated surface silyl radicals created using the tip of the STM. The STM images showed molecular lines running along and across the dimer rows depending on the chemical constituent of R in the CH2 = CH-R molecules. [Pg.169]

The rapid fabrication of covalently bonded ID functional molecular lines with predefined location, direction, and length provides a means to make a predesigned interconnection of molecular lines running along and across the dimer rows. Indeed, the perpendicularly connected allyl mercaptan and styrene lines or allyl mercaptan and acetone lines have been fabricated on the H-Si(l 00)-2 X 1 surface. °° 2 ... [Pg.171]

Figure 8.23. The solid and monotonically declining line to the right represents the equilibrium curve. The four curves represent lines with constant rates in the same plot. Since we want to operate at points where of maximum ammonia concentration, the optimal operation line is defined as the line running parallel to the equilibrium curve, passing through all the maxima. [Adapted from I. Dybkjaer, in Ammonia Catalysis and Manufacture (1995) Ed. A. Nielsen. Springer-Verlag, Berlin/Heidelberg, p. 199.]... Figure 8.23. The entire assembly is put together once and is inserted into the magnet bore from the top as a single entity. It is then connected to the hot air, preheated hydrogen and liquid supply lines running from the stationary part of the set-up. The last comprises valves, rotameters, pressure gages and gas lines and will not be described in detail here. [Pg.572]

Air conditioner condensate lines are sometimes installed so that they penetrate the slab to dispose of the water in the subslab area. Even when water is trapped, this can be a problem because the traps often dry up during the heating season. At this point they become radon entry routes. It is recommended that air conditioning condensate lines run to a drain that will not dry out or that a condensate pump is installed that collects the condensate and disposes of it through a water trap. Often a washing machine drain is located in a basement near enough to use it. [Pg.1280]

The lifetime of the molecular cloud is considered to be a time line running from cloud formation, star evolution and finally dispersion in a period that is several tci. The chemistry of the TMC and, to a good approximation, all molecular clouds must then be propagated over a timescale of at most 20 million years. The model must then investigate the chemistry as a function of the age of the cloud, opening the possibility of early-time chemistry and hence species present in the cloud being diagnostic of the age of the cloud. The model should then expect to produce an estimated lifetime and the appropriate column densities for the known species in the cloud. For TMC-1 the species list and concentrations are shown in Table 5.4. [Pg.146]

Many of Russia s major oil pipelines parallel gas lines. A trunk oil line runs eastward from the Volga-Ural fields to Irkutsk on Lake Baikal, westward from those fields into Ukraine and Latvia, and southwest to connect with the North Caucasus oil... [Pg.413]

The profile line runs a blend of virgin HIPS resin (2.1 dg/min at 200 °C and 5.0 kg) and between 0 and 20% of recycle material. The recycle material is from the same extruded parts and thus is composed of the same HIPS resin. The shear viscosity of the resin at 170, 190, and 210 °C is shown in Fig. 9.4. [Pg.397]

The coast of the state of Maine is one of the most irregular in the world. A straight line running from the southernmost coastal city to the northernmost coastal city would measure about 225 miles. If you followed the coastline between these points, you would travel more than ten times as far. This irregularity is the result of what is called a drowned coastline. The term comes from the glacial activity of the ice age. At that time, the whole area that is now Maine was part of a mountain range that towered above the sea. As the glacier descended, however, it expended enormous force on those mountains, and they sank into the sea. [Pg.102]

The metallics are often called other metals and begin an arrangement on the periodic table in zigzag steps. (You may view this dark zigzag line that divides the metallics from metalloids on a copy of the Periodic table.) For the other metals or metallics, this zigzag line runs run from aluminum to gallium to indium to tin to thallium to lead and then ends with bismuth. Elements left of the zigzag are also called poor metals. ... [Pg.174]

Having computed the centers v and V2 the next step is to find a best fit of the data in each cluster to lines running through the respective centers. This is done by computing the weighted scatter matrices of Equation 8. The eigenvectors of those matrices define the directions of the lines. A connection with the ideas of principal component analysis may be noted at this point. The idea is pursued further by Gunderson and Jacobsen ( ). [Pg.135]

When (concave) pyridines with identical a-substitution but different basicity (caused by 4-substitution) were compared, a linear basicity-reactivity dependence was found. For different types of pyridines the lines run more or less parallel [47]. The slopes of these lines are approx. 0.3. This argues for the association mechanism between the alcohol and the pyridine (via 56) because for... [Pg.85]

This point is simply a dramatization of the first defect of the theory that identifies with consciousness and S with the preconscious. If both systems have to be rational in the end, the best policy is to use rationality as the original criterion for setting them up and to hope that the line running between them will more or less coincide with the line between consciousness and the preconscious (without postulating any internal consciousness). In fact, the coincidence is far from perfect, but it is fairly good and that, no doubt, accounts for the plausibility of theories like Freud s. [Pg.76]
