Limits of lower

The approach being used to achieve this result was described recently by KTI reporting on work carried out for the Electric Power Research Institute (13). The basic scheme, in block diagram form, is shown in Figure 12. It consists of a hybrid reactor combining an advanced tubular steam reformer with an autothermal catalytic reformer. This combination overcomes the limitations of lower catalytic activity in HTSR systems toward the heavier hydrocarbons while retaining a significant part of the desired process characteristics. [Pg.185]

The detection and determination limits, which are generally defined in terms of signal-to-noise ratios (S/N), e.g., an S/N of 3 for the detection limit and of 5-10 for the determination limit of lower limit of qnantification. [Pg.7]

Additionally, rheometers may also be equipped with slit dies, which have the advantage of eliminating end pressure loss artifacts, but suffer from the limitation of lower maximum shear rates, and being more difficult to use. [Pg.32]

The vibrational energy spectrum of the solid E (o) = df/do), obtained in the above equation, is important not only for the vibrational energy exchange processes, but also for different thermal properties of the solids. The asymptotic behavior of this spectrum could be considered in the limits of lower and higher temperatures, with respeet to the Debye temperature of the solid, defined as... [Pg.419]

Besides UF filters made of electrospun hollow fibers, there are more and more multiple-layer UF, NF, and RO filters made of ENMs. Traditionally, those filters were manufactured by phase immersion methods, with limitations of lower flux and higher fouling. Research at Stony Brook University showed that ENMs with high porosity and open connected pore structures could overcome those disadvantages [89]. [Pg.340]

This is a very sharply peaked fiinction around f p with a width of the order of k T. (At T= is a step fiinction and its temperaPire derivative is a delta fiinction at p.) Thus in the integral for one can replace by its value at f p, transfomi the integration variable from to v and replace the lower limit of v, which is (-pEp), by (- ). Then one obtains... [Pg.432]

Figure A3.8.3 Quantum activation free energy curves calculated for the model A-H-A proton transfer reaction described 45. The frill line is for the classical limit of the proton transfer solute in isolation, while the other curves are for different fully quantized cases. The rigid curves were calculated by keeping the A-A distance fixed. An important feature here is the direct effect of the solvent activation process on both the solvated rigid and flexible solute curves. Another feature is the effect of a fluctuating A-A distance which both lowers the activation free energy and reduces the influence of the solvent. The latter feature enliances the rate by a factor of 20 over the rigid case. Figure A3.8.3 Quantum activation free energy curves calculated for the model A-H-A proton transfer reaction described 45. Targets and spirals have been observed in the CIMA/CDIMA system [13] and also in dilute flames (i.e. flames close to their lean flammability limits) in situations of enlianced heat loss [33]. In such systems, substantial fiiel is left unbumt. Spiral waves have also been implicated in the onset of cardiac arrhytlnnia [32] the nomial contractive events occurring across the atria in the mannnalian heart are, in some sense, equivalent to a wave pulse initiated from the sino-atrial node, which acts as a pacemaker. If this pulse becomes fragmented, perhaps by passing over a region of heart muscle tissue of lower excitability, then spiral structures (in 3D, these are scroll waves) or re-entrant waves may develop. These have the incorrect... [Pg.1107]

NMR can be carried out over a wide range of temperatures, although there is a time and often a resolution penalty in using temperatures other than ambient. An effective lower limit of - 150 °C is set by the lack of solvents that are liquid below this. Temperatures above 130 °C require special thennal protection devices, although measurements have even been made on molten silicates. [Pg.1440]

The lower members of other homologous series of oxygen compounds— the acids, aldehydes, ketones, anhydrides, ethers and esters—have approximately the same limits of solubility as the alcohols and substitution and branching of the carbon chain has a similar influence. For the amines (primary, secondary and tertiary), the limit of solubility is about C whilst for the amides and nitriles it is about C4. [Pg.1046]

The observation of two limiting kinetic forms was considered to be symptomatic of the occurrence of two reactions, designated non-catalytic and catalytic respectively. The non-catalytic reaction was favoured at higher temperatures and with lower concentrations of dinitrogen pentoxide, whereas the use of lower temperatures or higher concentrations of dinitrogen pentoxide, or the introduction of nitric acid or sulphuric acid, brought about autocatalysis. [Pg.52]

Since in practice the lower limit of mercury porosimetry is around 35 A, and the upper limit of the gas adsorption method is in the region 100-200 A (cf. p. 133) the two methods need to be used in conjunction if the complete curve of total pore volume against pore radius is to be obtained. [Pg.178]

Produced from Co l. Estimates of the cost of producing methanol from coal have been made by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) (12,17) and they are more uncertain than those using natural gas. Experience in coal-to-methanol faciUties of the type and size that would offer the most competitive product is limited. The projected costs of coal-derived methanol are considerably higher than those of methanol produced from natural gas. The cost of the production faciUty accounts for most of the increase (11). Coal-derived methanol is not expected to compete with gasoline unless oil prices exceed 0.31/L ( 50/bbl). Successful development of lower cost entrained gasification technologies could reduce the cost so as to make coal-derived methanol competitive at oil prices as low as 0.25/L ( 40/bbl) (17) (see Coal conversion processes). [Pg.423]

The most important feature of the pressure filters which use hydrauHc pressure to drive the process is that they can generate a pressure drop across the medium of more than 1 x 10 Pa which is the theoretical limit of vacuum filters. While the use of a high pressure drop is often advantageous, lea ding to higher outputs, drier cakes, or greater clarity of the overflow, this is not necessarily the case. Eor compressible cakes, an increase in pressure drop leads to a decrease in permeabiUty of the cake and hence to a lower filtration rate relative to a given pressure drop. [Pg.393]

Physical Dilution. The flame retardant can also act as a thermal sink, increasing the heat capacity of the polymer or reducing the fuel content to a level below the lower limit of flammabiHty. Inert fillers such as glass fibers and microspheres and minerals such as talc act by this mechanism. [Pg.465]

Furnaces of this type, such as the steam locomotive furnace—boHet design, had the obvious disadvantage that pressure was limited to ca 1 MPa (150 psi). The development of seamless, thick-waH tubing for stationary power plants (ie, water-tube furnaces) and other engines for motive power, such as diesel—electric, has in many cases ecHpsed the fire-tube boHet. For appHcations calling for moderate amounts of lower pressure steam, however, the modern fire-tube boHet continues to be the indicated choice (5). [Pg.140]

The explosive limits of hydrazine in air are 4.7—100 vol %, the upper limit (100 vol %) indicating that hydrazine vapor is self-explosive. Decomposition can be touched off by catalytic surfaces. The presence of inert gases significantly raises the lower explosive limit (10) (Table 2). [Pg.275]
