Light absorption coefficient

Silicon is the most popular material for photovoltaic (PV) power. Another material is gallium arsenide (GaAs), which is a compound semiconductor. GaAs has a crystal structure similar to that of silicon, but it consists of alternating gallium and arsenic atoms. It is well suited for PV applications since it has a high light absorption coefficient and only a thin layer of material is required, which reduces the cost. [Pg.202]

While f determines the radiative lifetime of an exciton at low temperature limit, fN determines the light absorption coefficient, hence the exciton absorption band will get stronger with decreasing nanoparticle size in the R< ae size regime. [Pg.237]

Filter substrates were chosen that were suited for subsequent determinations of aerosol mass, total carbon, elemental carbon, trace metals and aerosol light absorption coefficient The three filter assemblies contained, a 47 mm Pallflex Tissuquartz filter (2500 QAO), a 47 mm Nuclepore polycarbonate filter (0.40 ym pore size) and a 13 mm Pallflex Tissuquartz filter (2500 QAO). [Pg.237]

Why can one not just use the decadic light absorption coefficient, a(A), to describe light attenuation in a given water body How is the diffuse attenuation coefficient, aD(A), related to a(A) ... [Pg.651]

The light absorption coefficient of black pigments determines their optical quality. Their color intensity and hiding power depend on the particle size and particle size distribution. The most important black pigments are carbon blacks, iron oxides (Section 3.1.1), and mixed metal oxides (Section 3.1.3). [Pg.143]

Anisotropic crystals have a light absorption coefficient depending on the direction of the light wave and its polarization (IT). This again can be demonstrated in electrochemical experiments with layered crystals ( 1 8). Some results obtained with gallium selenide crystals are shown in the following Figures. [Pg.9]

Here, R is the particle radius, Io is the intensity of the incident radiation, a is the light absorption coefficient of the CdS particle. In addition, under stationary conditions, the rate of the electron disappearance is equal to the rate of the hole disappearance ... [Pg.54]

As noted in Section 4.04.2.3, key optical properties of aerosols are represented by the light-scattering coefficient, and light-absorption coefficient, both with reference to the particulate matter. The light-scattering coefficient of an aerosol can be measured by using nephelo-metry (Table 2). The integrating nephelometer (Anderson et al., 1996) exposes an aerosol to... [Pg.2029]
