Citrus Family. This is a popular fragrance group noted for its refreshing brisk quaUty. Lemon, lime, orange, and bergamot are important ingredients. These oils combine well with lavender and amber accords. 

Enhancers and Inducers. A sweetness enhancer is defined as a compound that imparts no taste per se, but when combined with a sweetener in small quantities, increases sweetness intensity. A tme sweetness enhancer has yet to be found. However, a good sweetness inducer, miraculin [143403-94-5] or [125267-18-7] (124), is known. Miraculin is a glycoprotein found in the fmit (called Miracle Fmit) of a West African shmb, chardella dulcifica. By itself, miraculin imparts no sweetness. When activated in the mouth by acidic substances, however, a sucrose-like sweetness is perceived. Thus, sour lemon, lime, grapefmit, rhubarb, and strawberry taste sweet when combined with miraculin. The taste conversion effect can last an hour or longer. 

Colas represent the largest segment of the U.S. soft drink market followed by lemon—lime brands. Pepper-type, juice-based, toot beer, and orange flavored soft drinks represent two to five percent of the total soft drink market (Fig. 4). Diet and caffeine-free categories represent the fastest growing segments of the market. 

Preservatives. The carbonation and acid content ia cola and lemon—lime beverages usually act as adequate preservation against microbial growth. Benzoate or sorbate salts are often added to other beverages for protection (Table 2). 

Carbon dioxide concentrations vary depending on the beverage formulation. Cola and lemon—lime beverages normally contain more carbonation than berry flavored or other citms beverages.

Target species Many varieties of citrus including grapefruits, oranges, lemons, limes, and tangerines. 

Plants that can cause photodermatitis include carrots, celery, parsnip, dill, fennel, caraway, parsley, lovage, anise, and chervil among the Apiaceae (Umbelliferae, or carrot family), figs (Moraceae), and citrus fruits (grapefruit, lemon, lime. 

Linalyl acetate is the principal constituent of the essential oils of bergamot, clary sage, lavender and lavandin. It is also present in the essential oils of Salvia officinalis, petitgrain, sassafras, neroli, lemon, lime, a few Mentha species and others.

The values given above pertain to solution on reconstitution of one flavor pack. When dissolved in sufficient water to make 4 L, the final solution contains 125 mEq/L sodium, 10 mEq/L potassium, 20 mEq/L bicarbonate, 80 mEq/L sulfate, 35 mEq/L chloride, and 18 mEq/L polyethylene glycol 3350. The reconstituted solution is isos-motic and has a mild, salty taste. Colyte Flavor Packs are available in citrus berry, lemon lime, cherry, and pineapple. This preparation can be used without the Colyte Flavor Packs and is administered orally or via a nasogastric tube. The main citrus varieties for juice processing are the orange, lemon, lime and grapefruit. 

Citric acid was originally produced commercially from lemons, limes or bergamots by pressing the fruit, concentrating the pressed juice and precipitating citric acid as its calcium salt, from which it was subsequently purified. It is now produced by the action of enzymes on glucose and other sugars.

Every winter I visit California to escape New York 5 chill. After defrosting in the sun, I like to raid trrf> parents Meyer lemon tree and bake endless batches of lemon cake and lemon-lime bars. Coming home, I just have to remember to leave some room in my suitcase for my clothes ...

A juicer is great for baking, as many recipes call for lemon, lime, or orange juice. It s also useful for other types of dishes. You can use a hand juicer, but sometimes it squirts all over the place and you lose precious juice. I recommend an electric juicer, but a juice press will work with some manual labor.
