CAS/STlS[Interna.tiona.1. CAS/STN offers stmcture searchable files such as Registry, Beilstein, MARPAT, CASREACT, and Gmelin a variety of learning files, eg, LRegistry, LBeHstein, LMARPAT, and LCASREACT and software products such as STN Express for on-line stmcture and substmcture searching. Chemical Abstracts Service, a division of the American Chemical Society, has pubHshed Chemical Abstracts since 1907 and joindy operates STN International with EIZ Kadsmhe and the Japan Information Center of Science and Technology. [Pg.117]

First, collect the input documents and reference resources. The primary input documents include an analytical tree and/or block diagram, drawings, and narrative descriptions of the system. The most important resources are a data base, lessons learned file, historical data, and/or other source(s) of failure rates or other reliability statistics. Every learning file contains a small segment of the respective main database. The Nomenclature File - often referred to only as REG-File - contains all the chemical substances, which have been registered by the Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) since 1965. Nearly 700,000 structures from 1957 to 1964 are included (Sect. 1.3.1.1). The database currently consists of 12.8 million records with more than 18.3 million names. Every week, between 7000 and 14,000 chemical compounds are added to the file. There is a learn file version to the Registry File, containing about 125,000 substances. Structures and substructures can be searched directly in CASREACT. The specialities of structure searches can be taken from the manual CASREACT User Guide and Building Structures on STN. As a learning file LCASREACT is offered. [Pg.224]

MARPAT contains patents of Chemical Abstracts since the publication year 1988 (Sect. 7.4). Patents fi om the former USSR are not included. MARPAT specializes in organic and organo-metallic compounds. Inorganic salts, polymers, etc. are still missing. The database contains 60,000 documents with 200,000 compounds. The database MARPATprev contains patent documents fi om CApreviews (Sect. 7.5) including Markush structures. As a learn file LMARPAT is available. [Pg.230]
