In a conventional LCD projector system, light throughput is limited by losses inherent in color separation using dichroic mirrors and multiple LCD panels. Color LCD projector systems suffer from the added complexity of using three LCD panels, one each for red, green, and blue images. For a three-panel full-color LCD projector system, it is estimated that only... [Pg.161]

It seems that we re always in the middle of an election. And elections mean speeches stump speeches, impromptu speeches, TV speeches, speeches after dinner, speeches in schools, and speeches in malls. With the prevalence of standup public speaking in the political arena, it would be easy for the new engineer to become confused and assume that the same mode is commonplace in business communication. The truth is that it is the rare businessperson today who gives a stand-up speech, at least for everyday business matters. With the advent of overhead projectors and transparencies, businesspeople stopped giving speeches and started making presentations talks supported by projected visual material. The advent of laptop computers, LCD (liquid-crystal display) projectors, and powerful presentation software has advanced this trend. [Pg.74]

A "PC projection panel" and overhead projection of the spreadsheet greatly eases viewing of the computer video output. The PC projection panel provides an overhead projection of the computer screen so that all review team members can easily and simultaneous observe and comment on the recorded information as it is being recorded. The PC projection panel consist of a liquid crystal display (LCD) panel that duplicates data, text or graphics, generated from the computer screen. When placed on an overhead projector the LCD image is projected onto a projector screen or a wall. Personal computer screens are viewable by only two or three personnel at a time. A typical review involves at least 5 personnel, so the PC projection pad enables all participants to view the software worksheet as it is prepared (note a "reflective" type of overhead projector will not operate with the PC projection panel, direct illumination from below the panel is required). Further details of a typical PC projection panel are provided in Appendix F. [Pg.33]

Transparencies are still used for presentations made with overhead projectors, even with the explosion of programs like PowerPoint (from Microsoft) and peripherals like LCD computer displays, both of which let you show a whole roomful of people exactly what s on your computer screen. Actually, though, PowerPoint still has an option to print slides, and you can use any program you want to print anything you want to a transparent sheet of plastic or vinyl for use with an overhead projector. The problem is, these papers are exceedingly difficult for printers to work with. That s why special transparencies were developed for use with laser and bubble-jet printers. [Pg.291]

Liquid crystal displays (LCDs) have found enormous success in the past couple of decades. They are used everywhere, from cellular phones, ebooks, GPS devices, computer monitors, and automotive displays to projectors and TVs to name a few. They play a critical role in the information age and are import elements of our daily life. In LCDs, besides liquid crystal, there are other important components. A typical LCD system is schematically shown in Figure 15.1. We will discuss some of the components in this chapter. [Pg.513]

The nonpolar and semipolar nitride devices also have the potential to use the polarization light emission. This property is especially beneficial for backlighting liquid crystal displays (LCD) and projectors. The polarized light sources do not require polarizing filters and thus the screens can be made thinner, lighter, and more energy efficient. [Pg.24]
