In addition to being useful for side studies, the process specification sheets can be used as a file to capture the latest thinking for each individual unit of major material for cost estimation and final design. Vendor quotes are expedited if data is provided to them on standard-type process specification sheets. 

However the latest thinking provided by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the Guidance for Industry for Quality Risk Management suggests that all qualification activities for analytical instruments should be performed using a risk-based approach. 

In this chapter, we briefly discuss the rise in atmospheric C02, and the reason, from a sustainability perspective, of why capture and sequestration are necessary. Recent advances in capture and sequestration technology are given, as is the latest thinking on putting a price on C02. 

Many plants have been designed and operated on a batch system with various stirring systems and recirculation loops since the early 1950s but the latest thinking for bulk production is probably the plants that Davy Process Technology has developed for alkoxylation. At least 10 plants of its design have been put into beneficial operation since they were first introduced in 1990 and are based on the Buss Loop Reactor technology. 

The excited state behavior of a compound usually depends largely on the nature of its lowest triplet. In compounds where the two triplets are energetically proximate, they can equilibrate thermally before decaying and they may also mix with each other. How much these two phenomena affect chemical reactivity is still the subject of active research and speculation. The latest thinking is that mixing is not significant unless the two "pure triplets would be within 0.5 kcal... 

Some of this work has led to partnerships with international organizations on major issues such as biodiversity or climate change to ensure that Shell has access to the widest expertise and is in touch with the latest thinking in these areas. 

The reason for writing this second edition is simple—science marches on and there are new topics and areas of interest that did not exist in 2003, when the first edition of this book was written. We now have UPLC and Orbitraps as well as DESI and DART to name a few of the new instruments and techniques that are now part of our toolset for using mass spectrometry for drug metabolism studies. This second edition is a completely new book with 14 new chapters that were written solely for this edition. While some of the topics are the same as in the first edition, the newly written chapters provide the latest thinking on how best to use mass spectrometry in a drug metabolism setting. 

Ten of the papers included in this book were presented at the original symposium. In each case, the paper has been reviewed and, in several cases, been modified to include 1982 findings. Five papers were added to describe coking results that are considered highly important. Consequently, this book discusses recent investigations and the latest thinking on coke formation due to thermal and catalytic processes on metal surfaces. 

The symposium was timely, with objectives (a) to bring together scientists from different parts of the field to exchange and discuss information, (b) to teach those reseachers who are presently active on the boundary of the field, and (c) to bring before the entire group some of the latest thinking in connection with the structure and behavior of water itself. 

The basic hazards can arise from skin contact, respiration and actual ingestion of the chemicals, and from other effects, such as fire or explosion, that may be caused by inadequate caution in handling some of them. Latest thinking on environmental care also spotlights the potential long-term effect of chemicals such as additives. Alongside extensive research into direct hazards to health, there has also been considerable development of safer forms in which to offer additives, to prevent or control escape into the atmosphere.
