For example, Day-Glo HM Series toners come ia a range of colors suitable for flexographic and gravure inks of the solvent-base type. The Radiant GF Series and Lawter HVT Series are also suitable for this type of apphcation (see Table 2). Generally, these toners are of the formaldehyde—sulfonamide type and requite oxygenated solvents, primarily alcohol—ester blends, for proper solution. For appHcations such as flexographic printing on film, these materials are modified with other resias such as nitrocellulose or polyamides ia the finished ink. 

Other Applications. PEO has also been used as an antistat additive (178,179), water-soluble packaging material of seeds and fertilizers (180), and rheology modifier in aqueous flexographic printing inks (qv) (181).

The conditions to be met in decorative printing are particularly demanding. Decorative papers for gravure and flexographic printing are used to produce laminated plastic sheets. Pigment selection is a matter not only of the type of resin (melamine or polyester), but also a function of the processing method. 

Production of P.Br.5 seems to be discontinued. It enjoyed only limited regional importance. The pigment is the poorest performer of all pigments within its class. P.Br.5 is used in special applications, such as flexographic printing inks, textile inks, and wood stains. 

P.R.169 parallels the P.R.81 types in terms of shade and fastness properties. Thus, P.R.169 types are equally suited to letterpress and offset printing inks, where they provide the standard purple red for three and four color printing in accordance with the so-called DIN scale (Sec. 1.8.1.1). Moreover, P.R.169 is frequently used for toluene-based publication gravure printing inks, where it is sometimes applied in combination with P.R.57 1. A number of grades, however, are not as fast to toluene as comparable P.R.81 varieties. One of the major fields of application for P.R.169 is in aqueous flexographic printing inks. 

In flexographic printing there has been a move away from solvent inks to the more environmentally friendly water-based inks. This has led to a renewed interest in the use of this technology. ... 

An economic comparison of biofiltration and thermal oxidation was provided by a recent trade publication authored by a PPC chemical engineer (D16218F). The analysis for Case 1 was based on a 4000-cfm airstream containing organic contaminants typically found in the flexographic printing industry. Biofiltration was compared to catalytic oxidation. Lower operating costs favored biotiltration by almost 40% after 5 years of operation.
