Weed species resistant to the triazines that have been found in one or more fields in 10 or more states, provinces, or countries include smooth pigweed, Powell amaranth, redroot pigweed, common lamb s-quarters, kochia, common groundsel, black nightshade, and annual bluegrass (Tables 10.1(a) and 10.1(b)). 

Ritter and Menbere (1997) have reviewed the history and control of triazine-resistant weeds - especially common lamb s-quarters, smooth pigweed, bamyardgrass, velvetleaf, and giant foxtail - in the mid-Atlantic region of the United States. They concluded that the factors influencing the presence of the resistant weeds included lack of crop rotation and lack of herbicide rotation.

Geographic range. Lamb s quarters is a common annual weed thioughout much of the United States. It grows in crop fields and hay or pasture and is adaptable to both moist, rich soils and dry alkaline conditions. 

Toxic principle. Lamb s quarters conlaits both soluble oxalates arxi high concentrations of nitrates. It is rxjt unpalatable arxl may be readily grazed or eaten in hay.
