Ketamine Rohypnol

Common club drugs include other synthetic drugs MDMA (ecstasy), ketamine (Special K, vitamin K, Kit Kat, Keller, super acid, and super C), and Rohypnol (chemical name is flunitrazepam also known as roofies, forget pills, the drop drug, rope, LaRocha, ropies, Mexican valium, roachies, ruffles, wolfies, and rophies). 

DAWN says emergency room visits associated with club drug use of ecstasy increased 58% between 1999 and 2000 (from 2,850 to 4,511). The report offers no evidence of a similar surge over the same period for GHB, ketamine or rohypnol, though it should be noted that ecstasy tablets sold anywhere in the world are routinely cut with other drugs, ketamine included. 

The consumption of more than one drug over a small window of time and mixing two or more drugs together for a blending of effects is characteristic of club-drug use. As discussed above, ketamine is often mixed with alcohol, GHB, MDMA (ecstasy), rohypnol, and methamphetamine. Some 37% of reported ketamine combination episodes are linked with ecstasy. 

CLUB DRUGS Mostly synthetic, illicit substances found at raves and nightclubs. This group includes LSD, ecstasy, GHB, Rohypnol, ketamine, and methamphetamine. 

Like other club drugs—including ecstasy (MDMA), ketamine, GHB (gamma-hydroxy butyrate), methamphetamine, and LSD (d-lysergic acid diethylamide)—Rohypnol is easily accessible and relatively inexpensive. Often, users who intentionally take the drugs to get high at rave parties or elsewhere may not even know what they have taken or been given, which can make it difficult for medical professionals to treat them if they overdose or have a reaction. 

In 2002, a company called DrinkSafe Technology announced they had invented a coaster that can be used to test whether a drink has been drugged. If Rohypnol, GHB, or ketamine has been added, the coaster will change color when a drop of the tampered drink is placed on it.

The chemical agents used by those intent on rape are CHB, short for gamma-hydroxybutyric acid,321 which is a powerful muscle relaxant, ketamine,331 which is used as an anaesthetic, and flunitrazepam,341 which is better known by its trade name Rohypnol and is a powerful antidepressant. They have a variety of street names, such as liquid X, liquid E, and cherry meth for CHB, kit-kat and special K for ketamine, while Rohypnol pills are referred to as roofies, roachies, rope, and roche351 as well as more descriptive names such as circles, forget me pills, and lunch money. These three chemicals will cause a person to become dizzy and then completely unconscious, so much so that when they finally come round many hours later they may find it impossible to recall anything that has happened to them. This amnesia seems to be a permanent loss of memory although some of the victims have flashbacks in the days following the rape. 

Alcohol is just one of many drugs used to facilitate rape. Others include marijuana, cocaine, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, chloral hydrate, methaqualone ( quaaludes ), heroin, morphine, and LSD. Three of the more commonly used drugs today—and the ones that are the focus of this book—are Rohypnol, gamma hydroxybutyrate ( GHB ), and ketamine. Though Rohypnol and GHB were initially used as recreational drugs at clubs and raves, word soon spread among American youth that these drugs could be used quite effectively to commit rape. 

There have been a number of cases involving rapes facilitated by drugs other than the date rape drugs Rohypnol, GHB, and ketamine. In these cases, the defendants used drugs that were readily available, including codeine, cocaine, glue, sleeping... 

Ketamine is used legally as an anesthetic, usually by veterinarians. Yet, it has become a popular illegal drug at raves. It can be injected, smoked, or snorted. Ketamine is yet another club drug that is a notorious date rape drug. Like GHB and Rohypnol, it is often slipped into a person s drink by a sexual predator. 

Called the "Drink Detective," it is a matchbox-sized drink testing kit that can detect three of the most common date rape drugs that sexual predators slip into drinks GHB, ketamine, and Rohypnol. The kit contains test pads for each of the three drugs, as well as pipettes for applying drops of a drink to the pads. For the first time, people going to bars, raves, or clubs could test their drinks for date rape drugs. 

Ketamine is also widely used by sexual predators as a date rape drug. Like Rohypnol and GHB, ketamine can cause a person to lose consciousness. In either its liquid or powdered form, it can be slipped easily into a victim s drink.
