Another fateful turn of events, another cryptic scrap of paper This one bears the letterhead of the Technical University of Karlsruhe. Dated December 16, 1894, it states that Fritz Flaber had been hired as an assistant in the university s technical-chemical institute. At the age of twenty-six, Haber finally had a paying job. [Pg.33]

Beginning in 1957 by H. Rumpf, Professor at and Director of the Institute of Mechanical Process Engineering at the Technical University (TH) of Karlsruhe, West Germany, and later by others, mechanical process technology was opened to scientific treatment by introducing definitions and classifications. [Pg.2]

Zahn, Helmut (p. 161, Plate 54) was born 1916 in Erlangen and studied chemistry and graduated at the Technical University in Karlsruhe (Dr. Ing. in 1940). From 1940 to 1949 he was assistant to Professor Elod at the Institute for Textile Chemistry in Badenweiler, Baden, from 1949-1957 Assistant, Lecturer and Associate Professor at the University of Heidelberg. From 1952-1985 he was Director of the German Institute for Wool Research and in 1960 was appointed full Professor at the Technical University in Aachen. With his team (Plate 54) he was the first to obtain insulin by chemical synthesis. [Pg.274]

Herzog as well as Polanyi had spent time at the Technical University of Karlsruhe in its Institute of Physical Chemistry and, therefore, were known to Fritz Haber. Bergmann was considered a rising star among organic chemists of the time. He was Emil Fischer s most brilliant student. Fischer (1852-1919 Nobel Prize 1902) had strongly supported the idea for a central research institute in fibrous materials. Mark came to the new institute via his connections to the Fischer school. [Pg.46]

In cooperation with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Prof. Schuchmann) and the Technical University of Dortmund (Prof. Walzel), the impact of atomisation on the oil droplet size distribution was investigated using a pneumatic nozzle or a rotary atomiser. Variation of the protein content at a fixed dry matter... [Pg.62]

Martin Wietschel is the co-ordinator of the Energy Economics business unit at the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research, Karlsruhe. He is a Professor at the University of Karlsruhe and a Lecturer at the ETH in Zurich. His work focuses on socioeconomic and technical research, mainly in the field of energy and the environment. [Pg.647]
