You should be somewhat familiar with the general production totals. More plastics are made each year, about 72 billion lb, than fibers or elastomers. The largest volume plastic is polyethylene, with combined low-, linear low-, and high-density types amounting to 30 billion lb. Linear low-density polyethylene is the rising star. These three polyethylenes serve different applications because of their different properties. The largest fiber market is polyester at 3.9 billion lb, but polyolefin is a close second and has had a rapid rise in production. The largest synthetic elastomer is styrene-butadiene at 1.9 billion lb. [Pg.23]

The student should also review Chapter 1, Table 1.16, where the top polymer production is given numerically. Overall a 1.8% per year growth was recorded for 1990-2000 in synthetic fibers. A net decrease in the cellulosics of 3.6% per year shows their diminishing importance. Acrylics also decreased 3.9% annually in this period. The rising star is polyolefins, which increased 5.8% per year in the past decade. [Pg.317]

In conclusion, this chapter has covered the most recent literature of trivalent uranium, an oxidation state that only recently came increasingly under the spotlight and that currently can be regarded as a rapidly rising star in the held of... [Pg.344]

The problem was resolved by bringing the Bronfmans into the lower rungs of the Hofjuden caste. Almost overnight, the Rothschilds, Montefiores, de Hirsches, et al. took "Mr. Sam," the crime czar of North America, and transformed him into a rising star of the Canadian Zionist movement. [Pg.280]

St. Croix is the rising star of the U.S. Virgin Islands dining scene, with a growing constellation of top-notch restaurants lighting up the largest link in the island chain. [Pg.38]

China [26-30]. In recent years, China has seen its role on the world stage change dramatically from a rising star to an experienced performer. It has a massive trade surplus, but chemicals is one sector in which China runs a... [Pg.393]

The financial supports from the SRF for ROCS, State Education Ministry and Shanghai Rising-Star Program (03QB14015) are gratefully acknowledged. [Pg.90]

Einstein was not much of a rising star. Continually in conflict with his teachers, he did not complete secondary school as a result. He found a Swiss technical school where a high school diploma was not required and managed to finish the doctoral requirements, though he flunked a few entrance exams first. [Pg.318]

TCP s flagship franchise, Witchblade, was TNT s 1 original film of 2000 and is now in its second season as a television series for the network, already posting stronger ratings than the first season. Virtually all of Top Cow s other properties, including Inferno, The Darkness, Rising Stars, No Honor, The Cleaner, Fathom, and Felon are in development as feature films, live-action television, or animation. [Pg.547]

Herzog as well as Polanyi had spent time at the Technical University of Karlsruhe in its Institute of Physical Chemistry and, therefore, were known to Fritz Haber. Bergmann was considered a rising star among organic chemists of the time. He was Emil Fischer s most brilliant student. Fischer (1852-1919 Nobel Prize 1902) had strongly supported the idea for a central research institute in fibrous materials. Mark came to the new institute via his connections to the Fischer school. [Pg.46]
