The operations of the K-Reactor Purification Area and the K-, L-, and P-Reactor Disassembly Basins have been examined in this BIO to ensure the adequacy of tiie safety envelope, and to develop and promulgate any new requirements ensuing from the Preliminary Hazards Analyses and the Hazards Assessment Documents. The existing K-, L-, and P-Reactor Technical Spedfications were also reviewed. The review revealed the need for new admimstrative controls to preserve the safi ty anatytis assumptions. [Pg.31]

The structure of the K-Reactor Purification Area building is not susceptible to failure during design basis earthquakes, tornadoes, and high winds. The sdsmic event could potentially damage the purification equipment, such as the tanks and lines relea g moderator. In addition, drums of moderator stored outside the Purification Area are susceptible to fireezing during cold weather which also could release moderator. The consequences of a moderator release in the Purification Area are discussed in Section 8.3.2.19 of this BIO. [Pg.214]

This condition is based on the restrictions that no radioactive material are allowed except those irradiated reactor components in the K, L- and P-Reactor Disassembly Basins, unirradiated Mark 22 fuel assemblies in the K-Reactor Assembfy Area, and contaminated moderator in the KrReactor Moderator Storage Areas and Purification Area. This is based also on the nature of the fuel and sealed drums aiKi tanks and the precautionary measures taken to prevent the release of hazardous and radioactive material. The impa of normal operatiotu on the fkdlity worker, co-located worker, public, and the environnient is therefore-insigmficant. RC HP personnel will be involved with the movement of irradiated reactor components, contaminated unirradiated fiiel assemblies, and contaminated moderator and will establish ALARA requirmoits for the focility workers as discussed in Section 6.0. [Pg.191]

To continue to store and handle the irradiated components, the Disassembly Ba will continue to be operated in the same mannv as in tiie past.
