Since the transformer will be in the circuit for only 15 to 20 seconds, the approximate short-time rating of the transformer can be considered to be 10-15% of its continuous rating. The manufacturer of the auto transformer would be a better judge to suggest the most appropriate rating of the transformer, based on the tapping and starting period of the motor.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit affirmed the conviction of Colasurdo after considering an appeal based on reasoning that the ink identification technique was not yet proven. In their opinion, the Court considered the ruling made by the Judge in the Bruno Case, but were not particularly influenced by his failure to accept the ink identification technique. 

Electrodeposition of Bi onto Ag(lll) from aqueous acetate electroyte yielded an hexagonally close-packed superlattice, Ag(lll)(2N/3 x 2 /3) R30° Bi for which Bi = 7/12. The (2 /3 x 2v/3)/ 30° cells were present in parallel, strip-shaped domains averaging 8.5 silver unit meshes in width and unlimited length. In contrast, electrodeposition of Cu at Ag(lll) yielded no UPD peaks. While the Cu electrodeposit at Ag was stable at open circuit and was present as monoatomic layers as judged by attenuation of the Ag substrate Auger signal, it was somewhat disordered as judged by LEED.

A somewhat less pessimistic picture is obtained by recognizing that a CGR of <5 x 10-9 cm s-1 for a 0.5-cm crack loaded to Kj = 27.5 Mpa.m1/2 is probably tolerable ( il.6 mm year-1), given that the nucleation time for cracks is reckoned to be quite long (years) and that the CGR is predicted to decrease with increasing crack length. By this criterion, HWC appears to be considerably more effective at protecting the primary coolant circuit of a BWR than when judged upon the basis of the ECP.

A laboratory needs to participate in relevant crosschecks organized within the company circuit, with its customers if requested, or with the industry organizations. A completely unbiased assessment of a laboratory s capability for precision and accuracy can only be judged by a blind crosscheck. If the laboratory results are equivalent to those of other laboratories in the industry, it assures the laboratory itself and its customers that the laboratory is producing reliable results. On the other hand, if the results are less than satisfactory, it also helps the laboratory to correct its operation, which may be deficient in some aspect. Participating in a crosscheck without following up on deficiencies if detected is a waste of resources. 

Nemal activity is often periodic with a high frequency. After a plant trip test, Monju restarted operation on 6th December 1995. On 8th December, power was being raised for the next plant trip tests, part of 40% electric power tests. The thermal power had reached 43% when an alarm sounded at 19 47 dueto an off-scale sodium temperature at the outlet of IHX in the secondary circuit loop C. Afire alarm (smoke detector) sounded at the same time. A sodium leak alarm in the secondary circuit followed. The plant conditions of Monju at that time are shown in Fig. 1. The presence of smoke was confirmed when the door of the piping room was opened. The plant operators decided to begin normal shutdown operations becausethey judged it was a small sodium leak had occurred. Reactor power-down operations began at 20 00.
