Avulsion fracture of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is a fracmre of the tibial attachment site of the ACL, which is pulled out, rather than a tear in the substance of the ACL. It is also called an intercondylar eminence fracture of the tibia, tibial eminence fracture, tibial eminentia fracture, or tibial spine fracmre. Although a previous report suggested that ACL fibers could become elongated and damaged when avulsion fractures occur [1], the ACL substance is well preserved in most cases. Avulsion fractures of the ACL are seen in pediatric patients and infrequently in adult patients. Patients manifest symptoms similar to those of patients with ACL tears. The primary objective in each of the five dispensing techniques is to deposit consistently a specific quantity of adhesive or solder paste at each designated site. Too small of a quantity of adhesive, especially dot height, can fail to attach the part to the board. Too much adhesive causes it to run on to the solder pads, degrading solderability. In the case of solder paste, an insufficient quantity of paste will cause an incomplete joint or, in the worst case, an open circuit. A major bony landmark is the greater trochanter, easily palpated on the lateral superior aspect of the shaft. The lesser trochanter is on the medial aspect of the inferior end of the femoral neck. Some years ago, the author tried to stiffen an aluminum alloy honeycomb core by filling with a polyurethane foam. This was then scraped down to the level of the honeycomb and the bond made. Unfortunately, the foam prevented the formation of the fillet and the joint failed at a low load. With bonded honeycomb structure, the major defects consist of a lack of attachment between the core and the skin. This may be due to several causes such as locally crushed honeycomb O Fig. 42.10a), skin defects O Fig. 42.10b), or lack of adhesive (O Fig. 42.10c). In themselves, none of these defects may reduce the short-term joint strength. However, as for the lap joint, they may show poor preparation and may provide sites for fatigue crack propagation. [Pg.1055]
